Are there any Dopers presently residing in, or near, the immediate “Michiana” area?

For those unfamiliar with the term, “Michiana,” it includes:

South Bend, IN (The heart & center of “Michiana”)
Mishawaka, IN = (My hometown)
Elkhart, IN
Niles, MI
Edwardsburg, MI
Dowagiac, MI

etc…

I guess what I am really looking for is anyone within approximately a 50 mile radius of South Bend, Indiana. I will include Indianapolis Dopers in this, as well, if they are willing to travel up north, to South Bend.

I would enjoy meeting any area Dopers, in person, if you are interested. Presently, I am up for one-on-one, groups, bring a friend, whatever. I’m open to any of it. There are some cool places to hang out and chit chat around here, or just get plastered and boogie if that’s what you’re into.

I am not proposing an actual Dopefest, at this time. However, Indiana Dopefest possiblities are up for discussion if anyone is interested and nearby. I am well aware of Ohio’s Halloween-OhDope, but I am unable to attend that, at present. So, any “InDope,” Dopefest may have to wait.

As you know, MSK, I’m an IndyDoper. I occassionally make it up to the Bend for an Irish football game or a wedding, but those are either 75% spontaneous (football games) or completely booked time-wise (weddings, which are also few and far between). My brother also lives in South Bend, so I spend a lot of the time with him and his wife. But if you still have that shaved head of yours, I’ll keep an eye out for it when I’m out and about.

I’m pretty much between Indy & South Bend… maybe Kokomo is the place to meet!

Tho I’m on vacation 11/4-11/12 – gonna (maybe) meet **Rue ** in WDW!)

Is a transplanted Hoosier welcome? I live in Louisville, though I was born and raised in Southern Indiana. If it’s open to me, count me in as a maybe, depending on when and everything. Hey, Politziana if you need a ride, I could pass through there…

I, sadly, am residing in West Lafayette, IN.

And boy-oh-boy, is it ever a culture shock.

I’m not really mean and bitter, I just really miss living south of the Mason-Dixon line.

I am in Valparaiso, I could take the south shore, to South Bend, I think Billy Rubin may also live in northwest Indiana.
We should do this!

Hey, anya, would you be interested in carpooling? I could swing over at Indy straight up 65 until I get to Valpo, get you and whoever else, and ride in together…if so, drop me an email.

Maybe we should have a Dopefest in Shipshewana! I bet there hasn’t ever been an AmishDopeFest before. Think of the events we could plan:

RE: MSK hosting… if the Dopefest were held in South Bend/Mishawaka IN… yeah, I suppose that is do-able, but unfortunately, I can’t hold it inside my home. I have never thrown a Dopefest before, so I don’t know what the host’s responsibilities are. Anyone care to give me pointers?

:smiley: I was born and raised here. (For those who don’t know, South Bend and Mishawaka are synonomous)I know this place inside and out. I was thinking if it happens, we may want to do a potluck thing? Just an idea. There are more fine restaurants here than one can count.

We have a bazillion hotels here, however, there could be problems getting rooms, because of Notre Dame home games. Scheduling a good date is going to be a big factor, here. We all may want to check out the http://www.ndu.edu site for more on game dates.

I have November 9 -10 off, and Nov.30-December 1, as my weekends off this month. What dates work for the rest of y’all?

I’m a newbie, but I’m in Buchanan Mi, which makes me about 20-25 minutes from South Bend.

I’ve been reading the boards for a while, registered in Aug. Haven’t posted much, but check on them everyday.
I’m happy to see there are Dopers so close to home. Here I thought I was the only one in the area.

No idea where would be a good place to hold it though … there’s not much here in Indiana. We could all get together and go make crop circles, though! Wouldn’t that be fun? And tip cows! Yeah! We’d be livin’ on the absolute edge!

Paw Paw, MI here, so that puts me just over an hour from South Bend. Be sure to let me know when you nail down a date and time. I’d be interested in coming down for the festivities, but I need to know ahead of time.

November 10th doesn’t work for me. It’s my only niece’s first birthday, and I’ve been told by my SIL that not even death is reason to miss this event.

Any other weekend - except Thanskgiving, natch - works for me, I think…
