Not naming names and not linking posts because I am a lazy bitch, but am I the only person that gets tired of posts like this:
Seriously. I might not like the responses when I post something, but I take my licks if I deserve them*. If I don’t feel that I deserve them, I just ignore them and go on with my life. Honestly, am I the thick one or is this trend something that makes sense to other people?
*I made a comment in a thread ages ago that wasn’t meant the way it came across and another poster called me out on it – I totally saw how that poster read me and apologised. I have a funny way of wording things sometimes, in that instance, I did come across as a douche on a second reading.
Well, that’s progress. You usually come across as a douche on a first reading.
I agree with you about the thread-closing issue. I’ve always felt that someone who starts a thread should be forced to take their lumps if the thread doesn’t go the way they wanted, and that closing threads to protect people’s delicate sensibilities is a silly practice.
That said, i don’t recall seeing something like this recently. Maybe you could get off your lazy bitch ass and give an example or two?
That actually made me laugh out loud, thanks I knew that my OP was one of these, but I don’t plan on asking the mods to close it if (when?) I get “piled on.”
It just seems like I have noticed several threads like that in the last few weeks, and it’s idiotic. I mean, seriously, the OP wants validation for being a douche bag then demands the thread be closed when they don’t get their validation?
Fuck, I don’t need validation from a bunch of faceless words on the interwebz, if you agree with me, fine. If not, fuck it, I don’t really care
I assumed that he knew how he was coming across, and just wanted to see what fun we could have with it. I was kinda bummed that people were taking him so seriously about it though.
=(
It woulda been fun to see what other lines could have been made up.
Is it that simple, though? I thought the thread referenced here was closed b/c it wasn’t serving the purpose the OP intended. S/he was eliciting zingers, but was instead told that s/he was being a douche bag. Not that I disagreed with the sentiment, but I suppose it could have been construed as one giant hijack.
I have seen instances in the past where an OP solicits an opinion, doesn’t like the responses, yet is unsuccessful in getting a mod to close the thread.
I’ve asked the mods to lock threads I felt had run off the tracks and been denied before, but I think the grounds given were that the conversation was lively and appropriate, and the mere fact that the thing didn’t turn out the way I’d hoped for wasn’t good enough. Who knows, maybe it was mod-assisted euthanasia.
I was tempted to start a thread How to Be a Douchebag While Claiming Not to Be a Douchebag, until I remembered virtually every douchebag already knows how to do this.
My first thought was douchebag. But then I saw that in that situation the question “You eat meat don’t you?” was a pretty good setup. The person stating that question was in a position where they were leaning hard into a verbal sucker punch. (the snappy answer).
The smart-ass gene in me couldn’t resist coming up with something.
I too was a little disappointed that most everybody jumped on old douchey and didn’t bother to offer up their own sucker puncehes.
In the Pit especially, we usually don’t close threads just because the OP doesn’t like the responses he is getting. But in that case I figured the message had been received.
