Misfits of the SDMB

Ahem…

[ul]I’ve attempted to read HHGTTG one time. And hated it.
If it’s not Dave Barry, Stephen King, or a screenplay/play, I don’t read it.
I’m a die-hard Cubs fan.
I was kicked out of college.
I conned my way into college using someone else’s SATs. I have NEVER taken them.
I suck at computers. I have to consistently call my mechanic brother to ask him computer questions.
I don’t drink, and hate the taste of beer.
At the moment, I’m using my mother’s computer. She has an AOL account. I don’t mind it.
My CD collection pretty much consists of Counting Crows, Ben Folds, Billy Joel and Sublime.
I love hair bands.
I enjoy karaoke.
[/ul]

Do I qualify?

…thinking franticly about how to fit in with the misfit crowd…
I’ve built computers…
I work in the tech industry…
I like SF…
I’m happily married… (not sure sometimes if that means I’m a not-misfit or a misfit)

How 'bout…

…the fact that I have never felt the need to add superfluous swearing just because I am posting in The Pit.

Will that do it?

C’mon, everyone sing with me,

“Why am I such a misfit?
I am not just a nitwit.
Just because my nose glows,
why don’t I fit in?”

Oh, another Misfit fact about me

*I appear to be the youngest on the board
*I enjoy Smoking
*I enjoy my College work
*I like Cigars even more

I know I’m a misfit around here.

I’ve never watched The Simpsons. Never seen a single episode.

I’ve never seen Monty Python or Fawlty Towers.

Never watched Star Trek. Sci-Fi bores me.

I saw most of LotR on DVD, but (the horror!), didn’t watch all of it. I haven’t seen The Two Towers yet.

I think I read The Hobbit once, but I can’t remember.

I listen to country music. And I like it!

I’ve read most of the Left Behind books.

I’ve read most of the Oprah’s Book Club books.

I’ve never read Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I tried once, and just could not get into it.

I’ve never read Ayn Rand.

I’m not clinically depressed.

I don’t play Sims or other role-playing games.

My husband hunts, and owns several guns.

I think the vegan/vegetarian lifestyle is a strange choice.

I couldn’t build my own computer to save my life. When something goes wrong with it, I have a ‘Guy’ that I call to come fix it for me.

I didn’t ace my SATs. I wasn’t reading at age 2. I wasn’t doing College-level Trig at age 6. I wasn’t jumped ahead 2 grades in school. I never took advanced Math classes.
I wasn’t a Geek or Goth. I made fun of the Geeks in school.

I’ve never been to a DopeFest.

I like sitcoms.

Third Watch is my favorite show, and no one ever starts CS threads about it.

I don’t have tattoos.

I don’t like LOTR. I havenay read the books nor seen the films.
I have no opinion on evolution vs. creationism or gun-control.
I want everyone just to get along.
I am not one of the pedantic grammar police
and no I haven’t got a cite.
I don’t have a sense of humour.

I am from Africa…Does that qualify…

Me too.

(You have no idea how long it took me to do the quote thing)

I would say the only things which keep me from being a complete for this fit is my post counter is still only three digits.

Also I do not have encyclopedic knowledge of any television of book series.

I’m a Christian, but stay out of Great Debates.

I had a happy childhood, and still get along great with my parents and all my siblings.

OTOH, I’ve practically memorized The Princess Bride and own nearly all the Marx Brothers movies.

Man, one foot in the boat, the other on the pier…

Ouch, DaveW00. If I were you, I would recommend getting both of those feet on the same side or you and <ahem> the boys will be screaming meemies.

Do you like the video to ‘thinking of you’

I like wearing nice clothes. Does that that disqualify me from the clique?

I never go to ‘dopefests’
I am English
I couldn’t finish the Hobbit either (but have read all of LoTR)
I couldn’t care less about religeon
I am stupid (but very intelligent in very specific contexts/situations)

And is this a thread about whether people fit in in the dope, or is it a thread about whether people read/watched/liked the LoTR book(s)/movie{s}?

I access the SDMB by … WebTv.

Ive been on here for almost 4 years, and this is my 511th post. I dont have much to say.

I’m the mother of a cheerleader.

I’m one of those breeders (I have 5 kids.)

I don’t like Sci-Fi books (unless it’s by Stephen King)

I don’t play computer games and have never built a computer. My computer of choice is Mac.

My favorite vacation is Walt Disney World but Disneyland will do in a pinch.

I’m probably the only person in Texas that does not own a gun.

I am not an expert at anything (except maybe killing threads.)

I hate when my well thought out and unresearched theories get shot to hell with fact.

Bev “and I sometimes use internyms” Hamilton

I’m the complete opposite of the internet stereotype. What do I mean? Online, I’m calm, rational, occasionally pessamistic and/or cynical, and generally pretty nice. Offline, I’m perky, occasionally hyperactive, sometimes so irrational that it scares people, and much, much more assertive.

I have never watched an epsiode of Survivor, or of any other “reality” TV show.

I like Linkin Park.

Other than my recent discovery of Divine Divinity, I do not play computer games. I don’t play videogames, either; I have no aptitude and no desire.

I’ve never downloaded porn. Or looked at it.

Until I started dating a Trekkie, my knowledge of Star Trek began and ended with “First Contact,” and consisted of the following: “Riker is hot” and “James Cromwell is really cool.”

I haven’t read Douglas Adams, Anne Rice, J.R.R. Tolkien, or Robert Jordan.

I don’t own any of the MST3K series on video or DVD (though I like what I’ve seen), and never had the Sci Fi channel so I am limited to what little was available at my local video store.

I never liked playing Dungeons & Dragons, or other role-playing games. I actually prefer conventional board games like trivial pursuit.

I don’t have cable TV.

I own a BMW but tend to drive the posted speed limits.

I don’t read porno mags or watch porno videos, and generally am neither aroused nor repulsed by them.

I seldom read THE BBQ PIT, and stay out of disputes. MPSIMS is my favorite forum because I find people’s idiosyncratic thoughts a lot more interesting.

I use AOL, and I’m perfectly happy with it.

I’ve never read or seen LOTR or Harry Potter. Nor the latest Star Trek/Wars movies.

I am very computer illiterate. If I didn’t have to do it for work, I wouldn’t. I don’t have a home computer.

I got addicted to the soaps decades back. I’m still addicted, mostly cause I never tried stopping. Harmless fluff.

I’m a one-trick pony when it comes to Andrew Lloyd Webber. I know more about ALW than ALW does. And brother Julian, which makes me weird even in the theatre world.

I DO love the Simpsons and I’m a news junkie. Which does help me fit right in here.
