Starving Artist got real busy. That tends to happen when certain people have talked themselves into a corner.
Don’t worry, though, soon he’ll be back playing the “I’m outnuumbered by all the mean libruls” card…

It also happens to people with prearranged appointments to take relatives to visit their Alzheimer-stricken husbands in nursing care centers.
Yeah, I’m with Starving Artist on this one. Some people have too much time to sit on this board and post. I go in cycles of when I have a lot of stuff to do.
But also sometimes threads on this board get so unutterably stupid that it’s best to just stop posting for a while.
However, I love how Shodan saw a bit of propaganda about the Crusades as evidence of his point, and he was now capable of tossing out everything else that has been said.
Yay, I am so glad we have people on both sides who are so unwilling to look into the mutual hatred, and perpetuate for thousands and thousands of years!
Good thing we now have atomic weapons, and know for certain that one way or another this thing is gonna get resolved in our lifetimes.
Hooray for pathetic justifications of unmitigated ignorant hatred! As if reality is limited to either the left or right. Personally I’m of the opinion that reality is forbidden to anyone who strictly adheres to one side or the other. It’s not a question of left or right politics, but whether or not we can avoid killing everyone in the world with medieval jingoism now that we are using predator drones and ICBMs.
If you fucking tools can’t drop your idiotic political bias that someone else created and handed to you, then I hope that it’s only you that gets eradicated.

Wow, that sucks. Life really can be rough at times.
Anyways, I’m sure you’ll find time to return to this thread and take up your arguments eventually.

Thanks, guys. It’s nice to know that when things get personal, we can set aside our differences and treat each other with respect and consideration.

Well, back to OBL then. I think we screwed up in Afghanistan and Iraq. We should have gotten OBL and brought his head back for all the world to see (literally). The bastard hates us, and as was shown in this thread, he hates us for every reason he can think of - and for every reason he can invent. We’re homos, drunks, smokers, evil businessmen, non-sharia, infidels, anything he can think of goes on his list of “grievances”. He needs to die. A lot. Very slowly and painfully, given my druthers. So do all his buddies. Unfortunately, the mightiest country on earth has a problem catching one tired old man. Instead of getting him, we just piss everyone else off. Pathetic.
Sorry to hear it, SA. That can be pretty painful. And thanks for your kind words at the top of the page.
As far as whether terrorists hate us for our decadent lifestyles or for our policies, I don’t see why it can’t be both. And if it weren’t for our policies, it could very well be that they wouldn’t care less about our lifestyles. That’s my belief, anyway.
Much in the same way that if they never attacked us (or anyone else), we probably wouldn’t care much about how they treat their women. In many cultures around the world, women are treated just as badly if not worse, but we can’t seem to get too worked up about it. But by golly, knock down our buildings and we’ll go in guns-a-blazin’, with Susan B. Anthony in our hearts.
I disagree. He’s already a rock star among terrorists, let’s not make a martyr out of him. Just lock him up in a cell in an undisclosed location outside the US and leave him there.
Though I often disagree with your politics, I always find myself thinking that you are a very fine person. Your comment here is a bloody good example.
All my best wishes.
If only ‘our’ World Leaders could see the situation as clearly. The world is and has been a dodgy place. There are places that SCREAM out for intervention…ZIMBABWE anyone?? Peoples homes being bulldozed, people starving in a country that had a thriving farming culture.
Then there are places like Iraq. Nasty? Evil leader? Yes. Average Joe Blog able to get on with life without fear of bombing (if they kept their mouths shut)? Yes.
Would your average Iraqi rather feel safe go to work, send their kids to school and not spout shit about Sadam or worry about violence around every corner yet be democratic?
I don’t know but given the choice between reasonably predictable safety for my family and insanely violent democaracy then I would vote for Sadam.

Point of information - is smoking on the list of Things the West Does To Piss Off the Camel-fucking Terrorist Recta?
It would be sort of nice to know, when I have my weekly cigar, that I am doing my part to piss off the terrorists.

Shodan
PS - Sorry to hear about your relative, Starving Artist. Alzheimer’s has got to be the one of the cruelest diseases known to science.
Thank you very much, calm kiwi.
It’s funny, you’ve described exactly the way I feel about you, too. I recall with much appreciation the kindness you showed me after the death of Ronald Reagan. That, and your subsequent posting history, have revealed you to be a very fine person as well. I’m honored not only by what you said but by the fact that it was you who said it.
Many regards,
SA
Thank you, Shodan. My uncle, who is 85, just developed the disease over the last couple of years and was only formally diagnosed with it last spring. At that time, he could still get around pretty well and was mostly just very forgetful and occasionally confused. Now he is virtually helpless and has trouble following even the simplest instruction. As an example, when we returned from taking him for a drive the other day, we couldn’t get him to sit down on his wheelchair…he kept trying to get back in the car. He often can’t think of his wife’s name, and if she leaves his sight for even a moment he gets anxious and asks me where “the woman” is.
She is 80 and very strong and active, however she can’t handle the 30 mile drive in heavy freeway traffic that it takes to get to the care center where he is staying, so I’ve been taking her down to see him two or three times a week.
They’ve been married for 61 years and it’s very hard for her to see him like this, as he’s always been a very knowledgeable, strong-willed and active person. It is a very cruel disease, indeed, and I think it’s even harder on family and loved ones than it is on the person with the disease.
Thanks again for your kind words.
I’m not sure, I may have just tossed that in. What the hell. Everything else is on one of the lists somewhere.
I keep hoping that OBL will turn up either in chains or dead. If that makes him a martyr, fine. Better a dead martyr than a live killer. We haven’t made martyrs out of enough of the right people. I’m not a warhawk, but I fail to see the wrongness in killing anyone who wants to kill us.
