How many of us realize that if this had not hit the news, we would have never even heard of the Miss Universe pageant? I mean was anyone here even watching it live?
And what would have been the alternative?
I didn’t say he handled it well, I said he did the right thing by admitting his mistake as soon as possible. What, would it have been somehow better for him to wait until the following to say “oops, sorry?” Yeah, making that mistake sucked. Drawing it out further would have only compounded the problems raised by it.
I’m curious about this. What would have been preferable?

I was referring to the verbal apology he gave on the air when I said “corrected his mistake as soon as he was aware of it”.
Yes, misspelling the names of the countries on Twitter didn’t help.
I disagree, by screwing up both countries, he’s obviously not playing favorites and is just generally incompetent. Screwing up just one country (especially had that one country been the Philippines), would have been far, far worse.
Should he maybe have screwed up the spelling of every word in the apology?
