As an English socialist, I’ve occasionally had the guilty thought “fucking Representation of the People Act 1928!”.

Because over here women are for more likely than men to vote Tory, in fact women have been solely responsible for every period of post-war Tory government, in that men as a group always vote Labour.

But I don’t suppose Mrs Mississippi would have much sympathy for that.

Probably because the USA Democratic Party = UK Conservative Party. The UK Labour Party is about equal to the USA Green Party. Does the UK have a National Socialist Party? If so, that would be about the same as the USA Republican Party.

When I was in college, Phyllis Schlafly visited the campus and told all of us that we should get married and not work outside the home. Of course she crisscrossed the country so many days a year, spreading this message of not working. Maybe that doesn’t count.

I can’t remember now all the whackdoodle things she said, but she hurt and angered a lot of women (the audience was IIRC almost entirely women), who had to know what they were in for, and I remember thinking Schlafly was there just to push our buttons and laugh at us.

How many of us women have had to work with female coworkers like this, who just can’t relate to their fellow females? Either the overly-flirtatious ones who prefer working for a man because they can’t use their flirtiness to get around a female boss, or the overly sporty ones who only have guy friends and feel they have nothing in common with other women. Granted these are huge generalizations, but I have worked alongside some really difficult women who were so much happier when our female boss transferred away and we got a male boss. Didn’t even matter to the flirty one that he was gay. And believe me, he was the most two-faced, wishy-washy boss ever! Just a disaster as a boss!
