So, load the bases and let their cleanup take a whack at it? Alex Bregman already hit a homer earlier in the game (to go with the other ~60 homers he hit over the last 5 postseasons), is known as a disciplined batter, and is #5 league wide in walks.
Devil you know vs devil you also know.
What they really needed was to get the 3rd out before it got to the heart of the order. After that, they were choosing between bad and worse, and it wasn’t entirely clear which was which.
Thus far in the post season, Cleveland has scored 4 runs in 32 innings at bat, as many as the Yankees scored in only 8 at bats last night. I’m smelling a sweep here. Yanks overcame a couple shaky plays defensively but also some fine work by Rizzo.
Fucking Astros. What a devastating loss for Seattle. But I still think this will be the closest of the Division Series and will take 5 games.
It’s the anniversary of the Grover Cleveland Alexander game to win the World Series for the Cards.
Yes, Alexander pitched the day before but wouldn’t every player know that it’s all hands on deck for a game 7? Even if he had been needed for just one out, it doesn’t make sense to be ther hungover the next day. Now, after you win the World Series…….
Alexander was injured in World War I, resulting in epilepsy and PTSD. By 1927 his alcoholic episodes were probably more self-medication than celebration.
Happy for the Padres. As a lifetime Yankee fan I of course want them to win. If that’s not possible I like seeing fans that never had a win in their lifetimes finally get one.
Luis Castillo and Framber Valdez had a good pitchers duel going today, at least at first. But Castillo maintained his command and control while Valdez couldn’t. Castillo pitched good enough to win, but it was a few key hits that led the Astros to win. I wasn’t sure about Dusty Baker’s decision to pull Valdez with Cal Raleigh coming up with the bases loaded, but it worked.
When I think of Dusty Baker and pulling pitchers or not, Salomon Torres in 1993 and Russ Ortiz in 2002 come immediately to mind. Painful memories.
Happy for the Astros win! They need to close this out in Seattle. You don’t want to come back to Houston for a game 5 and the Mariners having the momentum.
Thirded. The Yankees are fun to hate because they’re worthy opponents. When they beat you, you know how they did it. When you beat them, you can dig at them back.
There’s nothing worthy about the Houston Cheaters. Until there’s full justice, including their World Series “win” being vacated, there’s no honor or respect playing them.
“MLB released a statement Tuesday noting that the Yankees did not explicitly violate league rules, noting that “at that time, us of the replay room to decode signs was not expressly prohibited by MLB rules as long as the information was not communicated electronically to the dugout.” “
A directive then came out to all teams to not continue with anything like that. The Yankees complied. The Astros took it to 11.
