MLB: 2022 Postseason

(emphasis added.)

The rules don’t say you can’t use trashcans to communicate!

They were wireless trash cans.

Ah, the “Air Bud” rule of sports.

You missed the part where I compared it to the HR race where a lot of Yankees fans seem to think Judge should be considered the single season MLB HR record holder, even though steroids were not explicitly against league rules when Bonds set the record (and wouldn’t be for a few more years).

The Yankees knew their sign stealing was skirting at least the intent of the rules, even if it was not explicitly disallowed, and did it anyway. And then during the investigation tried to keep as many details from the public as possible.

What’s good for the goose apparently isn’t good for the gander.

So the Yankees were doing what all mlb teams were doing?

It’s hardly the same thing and was only useful if a runner was on second. In other words, exactly was baseball players on second have been doing since the dawn of the sport.

Every team looks for an advantage. Many cheat. Some get caught.

Many go by “If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying.”

I think deliberating violating the rules in a way that might affect the game is much worse than anything Pete Rose did. I’m thinking about corked bats, and pitchers using sticky substances. Those offenses should result in life time bans.

Stealing signs is part of the game. That’s why they change them with a guy on second base. If MLB makes some sign stealing technology off limits, then it’s off limits. Violating that rule should result in a lifetime ban for all involved.

In the top of the tenth in today’s game, Cleveland opened with two bloop hits, followed by a shot to deep center. 4-2 Guardians.

Judge is 0-5 with 4 strikeouts.

Yankees losing almost makes up for the Astros winning. Go Guardians!

I agree, go Guards!

Crappy way to lose a game on two of what Hawk Harrelson calls duck snorts. Still were it not for Donaldson’s errant throw on the first bloop, the runner never gets to third and the infield never comes in and the game changes. I wish Judge had sat down a game or two down the stretch, he seems to be pressing now. A bit of overmanaging by Boone in my view to run for Stanton and it would have been nice to see him batting in the bottom of the 10th instead of Lecastro.

Lifetime ban??? Nah, it is part of the game, scuffing the ball, corking the bat. If you get caught, ya get caught. Slap on the wrist first time, progressively worse because if you’re not smart enough, you deserve to be mocked.

I don’t get this attitude that cheating is part of the game. I’m glad it seems to be a dying opinion.

Padres!!!

as in “F the Dodgers”

If you can’t bring home runners in scoring position, you deserve to lose.

This is a self-contradicting statement. Betting on the outcome of games you are involved in can really only have one outcome of affecting the game itself.

Sticky stuff in some form will always and should be a part of the game. Spidertak is certainly well beyond the limits of what should be allowed, but pitchers being able to control the ball better is a good thing for the game (and the safety of the players). Suggesting the use of it should result in a lifetime ban?! That’s the silliest thing I’ve heard in a long time.

I remember reading about Whitey Ford’s antics years ago.

FYI: Mariners vs Astros is in extra innings on TBS; Yankees vs Guardians is airing on TNT.

Mariners vs. Astros is now in the 17th inning with no score, making it the longest scoreless postseason game in MLB history.
