Nats win, Skins win, Caps win, and I got paid to watch that shitshow of a “debate.” Life ain’t too bad.
I swear on a stack of Origin Of Species that when Encarnacion sent them into the ALDS, I knew they were over the hump. They had been under a lot of pressure to win games they had to win when they weren’t hitting well (blessed be the pitching staff). Getting past Baltimore in the wild card game took that every-day pressure off them; they could afford to lose a game now, and that took the weight of the world off their shoulders and let them play free and easy. The playoffs are a new beginning for them. They’re in an ideal place psychologically to take a serious run at the World Series.
When Yogi said sports is fifty percent physical and ninety percent mental, he couldn’t have been more right.
I think that describes all Blue Jays fans right now.
Ugh, I knew if the O’s didn’t win that one game the Jays would probably play all the way to the World Series. They’re just too good a team,
Meanwhile, in a series that the Red Sox should at the very least be tied in, I do not have a good feeling with Buchholz on the bump tonight. Might have to score double digits to stay alive.
Bush was fantastic. I only saw him make one mistake with his fastball: he threw one in the middle of the plate to Bautista. That mistake was still going 97 mph and Bautista just fouled it off. Beyond that, Donaldson hit his double off of a curveball.
What did you expect Banister to do, though? Use his closer in a non-save situation? Heresy.
(Seriously, why is nobody talking about this? The Jays just walked off another team in extras without them ever going to their closer)
They finally look like the team I was expecting to see from the beginning of the season: fantastic offense backed by a strong bullpen. The thing is, though, the starting pitching is still significantly better than I ever dreamed was possible (although you certainly hope that Sanchez has a better outing next around. I suspect he was very amped up making his first-ever post season start in front of a crazy home crowd with a chance to sweep)
I was dreading an ignoble exit in the wild-card game. Now September feels like a distant nightmare.
Bleh. Yes it was, much to my chagrin. I don’t regret going, but man did you guys get lucky. Unbelievable the number of wasted opportunities the Dodgers had, though at least they put a bat on the ball for most of them.
Dodgers-Nationals: we have a series now!
So Seager has gotten an RBI on his first at bat in each game of the series so far. That kid has a huge future. Now the remainder just needs to go better than yesterday.
Certainly not to this point.
Dusty Baker’s little kid is a Senior in HS and playing for UC-Berkeley next year? I remember him getting yanked off the baseline during the WS like it was yesterday. Rip Van Winkle moment.
Soooo, does Bryce Harper look a bit like Syndrome from “The Incredibles” to anyone else?
Red Sox keep crushing the ball and 90% of them are directly at people. Such a frustrating BABIP-y game. Hopefully Allen still can’t find the plate in the 9th.
Nats did that all season. They often wouldn’t put the bat on the ball, though.
Goodbye, Big Papi.
Game 3, Top of the 2nd: Cubs 3-Giants 0.
Just sayin’.
I suppose it was inevitable that Bumgarner’s incredible postseason streak would have to come to an end. I suppose it’s fitting that it came at the hands of a pitcher.
Boy, will I miss that guy. Baseball won’t be the same without him.
As for the Sox losing to the Tribe, meh. I was unbelievably angry with Sox ownership over how Terry Francona’s tenure in Boston ended and I’ve never really forgiven them for it. As far as I’m concerned, this series was deserved punishment. There’s always next year.
It will just make the still-upcoming comeback all the more remarkable.
Senator Sanders, that you?
The Cubs do make pitchers work: Bumgarner at over 100 pitches through the top of the fifth. I don’t imagine that’s happened to him very often this season.
I like your thinking.
