You should get that checked out, dude. Olfactory hallucinations can be a symptom of serious neurological disorders.
What a game, what a season, what a team! Kris Bryant. Kyle Hendricks, Grandpa Ross, Kyle Schwarber and the immortal CARL EDWARDS, JR! Holy Cow! Cubs win!!!
Grats Cubs! What an ending!
Well then, having seen man walk on the moon, the birth of the personal computer and, being a Cubs fan for these many years, now seeing a World Series, may I be laid to rest. Or at the very least, may I get laid tonight…
It’s 4:15 in the AM. This is what time I get up for work. There was no way I was going to be able to stay up late to watch the game and make it to work as a functioning human being, so, natch, I DVR’d it.
Seriously? Extra innings and a half a rain-out? DVR ran dry tied up in the bottom of the 9th.
So. Who won, anyway?
Holy cow. ![]()
Is the font used by the Chicago Tribune* bigger than the end of WWII?
How many copies do you think will be sold today (vs a random Thursday?)
Brian
- I assume that is the most popular Chicago newspaper, adjust my question accordingly
Since 1971, the first World Series I remember, six droughts of 50 years or more have been erased.
Amazing!
1980: 97 year drought ends; Philadelphia Phillies (1883, founded; 2 losses since then, 1915, 1950)
1987: 63 year drought ends; Minnesota Twins (1924, last win; 2 losses since then, 1925, 1933 (as Washington Senators))
2004: 86 year drought ends; Boston Red Sox (1918, last win; 4 losses since then 1946, 1967, 1975, 1986)
2005: 88 year drought ends; Chicago White Sox (1917, last win; 2 losses since then, 1919, 1959)
2010: 56 year drought ends; San Francisco Giants (1954, last win; 3 losses since then, 1962, 1989, 2002)
2016: 108 year drought ends; Chicago Cubs (1908, last win; 7 losses since then, 1910, 1918, 1929, 1932, 1935, 1938, 1945)
I think there can be no other choice: Theo Epstein for sportsman of the year.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see these same two teams do this again next year. Cleveland will have back their #2 and #3 pitcher which they didn’t have this year. Cubs will have young players who learned how to hit good pitching as the playoffs progressed. Should be some great games coming up. See you guys next year.
Rule of post season managing seems to be that you always over-manage. Maddon is no different than the rest of them. When there’s a hot hand on the mound, leave him in there.
The call at second base on the dropped ball was the worst I’ve seen in some time. Replay caught it fine, but why does it take so long?
Very happy for all the Cubs fans - the fireworks woke me up, and continued for some time!
Re: sox fans - my 2 BILs are big S Siders. One of them is intentionally not cheering the Cubs, the other just likes watching sports so much, he has temporarily transferred his loyalties. I’m just glad so many people will be so happy.
So, since 1986 every Chicago team has won their championship. Something I NEVER thought I would see as a child in the 60s!
Personally, I started watching in the 6th. Had to leave after CL tied it up. I found the stress of hoping the Cubs didn’t lose it vastly outweighed any enjoyment from watching it.
Good for the Rickettses. I’d say this will give them a green light on whatever they want to do to develop Wrigleyville…
I disagree. Were they even holding him on?
He’s a multiple Golden Glove winner, though (IIRC), so I bet his throwing arm and his fielding judgment has saved a few games for them.
Wow. What a game. What else is there to say?
Great job, Cubbies. And, I guess we know what Ben Zobrist is naming his next child…unless he legally changes the name of his current youngest.
I totally blanked on the fact it was a 2-run lead. DI was the correct scoring.
And Steve Bartman can come back home! The* fatwa *has been lifted!
I guess we finally have the answer to the question, “Can the Indians blow a 3-1 series lead and then lose the last two games at home, the last by a single run in extra innings?”
Yes. Yes, they can.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
