My grandmother was one of them. 1922-2004. Lived her whole life in Chicago.

Incredibly exciting series.

At the start, i had no real rooting interest, but once the Cubs went down 3-1, i was rooting for them to come back and win it all, mainly just to see the comeback.

I don’t think I’ve ever said “Holy cow, I don’t believe…” so many times in a ball game.

I am losing it. I grew up near Philly most of my life, but my first three years as a spectator of baseball – and at least thirty games-- were watched at Wrigley with my sisters. They were fifteen and thirteen, me at five.

Here’s a part of my Facebook post from Tuesday:

This goes back a ways for me.

First 30 games of baseball seen live: Wrigley Field. Rick Monday, Mike Krukow, Ivan DeJesus, Bobby Murcer, Dennis Lamp… My parents dropped off 15-year-old Patti, 13-year-old Robin and five-year-old me…

This was 1976. (And it was actually safe back then. Go figure.)

At first I loved going up and down the bleacher benches crushing peanut shells with my shoes during the day games. (No night games at Wrigley until '87 or '88)

I quickly learned what was happening on the field was (gasps!) also what I saw on TV, or what I heard on the radio (WLS) with our Cubs team.

“THAT’S Ivan Deesus??”, I would ask, not quite pronouncing DeJesus right at the age of five. When this happened, crushing peanut shells was somehow shelved.

My dad would carry me out while I sat on his shoulders who met us there after work. (I would complain about the stubbly neck I rode upon when we got to the car. :D) Most of the time, all five Leones would sit and watch crazy wins and losses.

Since then, I moved to South Jersey (whoo-hoo!) in 1978. I grew up there from age 7 1/2, I moved and studied in Philadelphia, Boston, now I reside in CA…

and the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians-- two forgotten teams-- are going against each other for ONE game.

No matter how this turns out, it will be the best game. This is baseball, REAL baseball. And I’m mostly sad it ends tomorrow. I wish they’d change it to a best of 19 series so we can prolong it.

Ok, I gotta ask this. Why the hell do baseball players spit so damn much? Its not the physical exertion, basketball is played indoors and I’ve never seen them spit. But every time the camera cuts to Chapman, he spits. So do a lot of other guys. Its disgusting

My friend’s toddler keeps asking why they’re all sick, “spitting up.” I also witness it a LOT all around Chicago. I want to grab them all by their necks and rub their noses in it.

What an amazing game, one for the ages. We were in a bar and I wore the only Cubs t-shirt I own, and I brought my Cubs balls and cups and bobbleheads (I have two)*****. They’re decorating our table as we watched the game, it was wild. I, a long-time Giants fan, am with two friends who are lifelong Cubs fans. One was at Game 4 on Saturday, and the other went to Games 3 & 4.

Some other Cubs fans brought their W flags, and when the Cubs won we were all singing. It was great!

GO CUBS GO, GO CUBS GO!!

History was made tonight. History-wise, this will be the most fantastic Game 7 ever in my life.

***** - I am a Giants fan, I bleed orange. The reason I have Cubs gear is because I am also a baseball fan and am trying to get to all 30 ballparks (I’ve been to 29). I buy a few things from every park. And, the one time I went to Wrigley was in 2014, the 100th anniversary of the park, so I got the t-shirt celebrating that centennial. Wrigley, along with Fenway, are the shrines of the ballpark. Tonight, because I was with my Cubs fan friends, I was an honorary Cubs fan.
