Ohtani leaves pitching start

How about acquiring Michael Soroka from the Nationals for two minor leaguers? Neither were among their top 10 prospects; shortstop Ronny Cruz and outfielder Christian Franklin, the #14 and #15 organizational-ranked players.

Atlanta just completed a 3-game series in Kansas City. In the first game, the Braves hit 3 home runs and outslugged the Royals 10-7. In game 2, KC returned the favor with a 9-6 victory, in which there were 26 total hits. So, naturally, in the rubber game, Atlanta had 5 hits and KC 3 in 10 innings. But KC’s 3rd hit was a single by Salvador Perez, which drove in the only run in a 1-0 victory by the Royals. KC used 9 relief pitchers in the 10 inning shutout, which tied an MLB record for the number of pitchers used in a shutout.

And… Suarez to Seattle.

I’m actually okay with that. I’m content with the Cubs staying with Matt Shaw at 3B.

Talking about same-day trades - I remember when Joel Youngblood was traded from the Mets to the Expos on August 4, 1982. He played in two different cities the same day (one afternoon game; one night game), in two different uniforms. He got a hit in each game. The man who got 2 hits for 2 teams in 1 day

If Dominguez goes on to greatness in Toronto that unique mistake jersey might auction for stupid-level money.

I hope he was smart enough to snag it before it was corrected.

Speaking of Toronto, they just acquired Shane Bieber from Cleveland in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Khal Stephen, a second-round draft pick.

Smart pick-up. His rehab seems to be going well in AA. He’ll probably only be a five inning pitcher, but who isn’t these days?

The Padres have picked up Mason Miller and JP Sears from the A’s in exchange for Leodalis De Vries, the No. 3 prospect in baseball.

Giving away top prospects is what the Padres do best.

Looks like reliever Kyle Finnegan is off to Detroit.

The Phillies have acquired OF Harrison Bader from Minnesota in exchange for outfielder Hendry Mendez and right-hander Geremy Villoria, both obviously prospects.

The Yankees have acquired closer David Bednar from Pittsburgh for catcher Rafael Flores, who tore up Double-A, is now at Triple-A, is a top-shelf framer and regarded as a big-league-ready catcher. Pittsburgh also gets 19-year-old Edgleen Perez, who makes except swing decisions and was rated as the Yankees’ 10th-best prospect by ESPN.

The deal is pending the usual medical reviews.

The Mets are obtaining OF Cedric Mullins from Baltimore. No word on what the Orioles receive.

Sorry for the multiposting.

Carlos Correa is heading back to Houston. The Astros also added Jesus Sanchez in a trade with the Marlins. What Houston is sending to each team hasn’t been revealed.

They also got Jake Bird from the Rockies. They are giving up a lot but pitching was a big need. You don’t get that without giving up something.

Mullins is someone I thought would be much better than he turned out. At the plate anyway. He fills a big hole that the Mets had. He’s really good in center with speed. They need that defense and now McNeill doesn’t have to play out of position. To get Mullins they give up a lot. 2 top 50 prospects along with an unranked prospect. For a rental hitting .229 that’s a lot.

The Yankees pull off a rare mid-game trade. While playing Tampa Bay they trade for their shortstop.

I’ll just note that this afternoon’s game had a long rain delay so the trade normally would have happened after the game. The game just ended after the deadline.

My beloved Cubs did manage to pull off a deadline trade (to go with the two pitchers they acquired from the Nationals and Orioles), trading Double-A pitchers Ryan Gallagher and Sam Armstrong to Minnesota for super utility man Willi Castro.

And a buzzer beater. Yankees get Camilo Doval from the Giants right at the deadline. The bullpen has been completely transformed.

Every time I see that name, my brain wants to autocorrect it to Octavio Dotel.
