Hopefully the front office can get a late inning reliever or two without giving up too much in the way of prospects. You’d think they could get a solid end of the rotation starter for a C prospect as well. There’s going to be a gauntlet to run from mid July through early August. it’ll be tough to play .500 ball during that stretch.
When was the last time, if ever, a team scored 21 runs in two consecutive games and lost them both?
The London series was fun but they need to make a few tweaks before next time. Maybe they both need to be night games as the sun seemed to really bother the outfielders. And the center field wall seemed to throw a bit of glare at the batters.
July thread here.
Don’t know about the last time, but it certainly has happened.
In April 1976 the Cubs lost a 10-8 game to the Mets. Their next game was against the Phillies. Mike Schmidt hit four home runs and the Cubs blew an eleven-run lead in losing 18-16. Two games, two losses, 24 runs. (I was in the stands.)
But wait, it gets worse. Cubs and Phillies again, May 1979. This time the Phillies won 23-22. (I wasn’t in the stands.) So the Cubs scored more runs in that one loss than Boston scored in these two games combined. The next day the Cubs lost to Pittsburgh 9 to 5, so their two-game, two-loss total was 27 runs. The London series wasn’t even close!
Tyler Skaggs is dead, I’m trying to get more details but it is all over Twitter.
