MLB: June 2022

I can speak to that.

Every game that’s not nationally-televised (be it on a broadcast channel, cable, or another streaming service), and every game that’s not locally blacked-out is available to watch live on MLB.tv.

Every other game is available to watch 40 minutes after its conclusion.

MLB.tv currently has a back catalogue dating back to the beginning of the 2020 season, and sometime earlier this season, they took down 2019, which annoys me as a fan of the 2019 World Series Champion Washington Nationals.

Wait… So if you pay for mlb.tv you do NOT get the games on other streaming services? (I know about the ESPN and local blackouts.) Seems like a tough sell to me.

Some yes, some no. The Amazon ones are for in-market. The mlb.tv ones as far as I know are for out of market. So you get the Amazon games if you’re out of market on mlb.tv

The Apple+ Games are more like a game of the week, so you don’t get those, ESPN games or these dumb ass Peacock Premium games.

That makes my head hurt.

Oh my God, can you imagine? People from a very predictable bunch of political groups would lose their shit.

I’m not sure why the Rays made this optional. It’s a uniform.

Seems to really only be a problem for fans of teams of good east coast teams. Royals games don’t get blacked out too often.

And of course, if you have or know someone with a T-Mobile account, mlb.tv is free.

Don’t make it optional next time. If baseball players are forced to wear camouflage baseball caps, they should be forced to wear rainbow caps.

Still doesn’t sound like a great business model.

College baseball game needs to be talked about here:

Oklahoma State 29, Missouri State 15. That’s a pretty high-scoring game in football.

Missouri State blew a 12-0 lead.

Or if individual players decided to sport logos for their preferred causes.

MLB.tv is more of a product for people outside of their favorite team’s TV market, or for people who are happy to watch games from all over the league rather than just their team. I don’t really understand the recent trend of slicing the streaming market up, as mentioned above - that’s a nightmare for Yankee fans, and an absurd way to retain a fan base.

I am sure in the short term they get a few more subscription dollars.

In the short term.

Very likely so.

Having baseball games available across a bunch of platforms might appeal to the fan who says, “I just want to watch some baseball, on one of the platforms that I already subscribe to.” But, I’m not sue how big of an audience that actually is.

It certainly seems to be hostile to the fan of a particular team, who wants to be able to watch as many of that specific team’s games as possible.

So are there any teams that would take on Gallo or Hicks from the Yankees? Hicks has 3 more seasons at $10m per. Gallo is a free agent after this season. I would rather trade one of them than Andujar.

I could some interest in Gallo, but very little in Hicks at this point. I suspect the Yanks would have to pay the bulk of his contract to move him.

The Nationals’ game against the Reds ended in dramatic fashion yesterday, on a pickoff play. The Nats’ catcher caught the Red on first base for the third out in the bottom of the 9th. Obviously, the Reds had to challenge it, and the play was confirmed.

Nats took three out of four against the Reds.

The Jays could really use a lefthanded bat, but I wouldn’t take Gallo unless he was literally free. He’s useful when he gets his batting average up over .200, but he can’t do that most of the time. He’s basically good at defense and whining about defensive shifts.

Yeah, well they’d probably take 3 out of 4 from Falls Church High School too.

Probably. Patrick Corbin would be the losing pitcher in the fourth game.

(Though he won in the Reds series. Somehow.)

I’m kinda liking the Los Angeles Angels city connect uniforms.

I’m getting a beach vibe as well as the throwback to the 70s surfer era.

Reds rookie pitcher Hunter Greene has pitched seven innings of one-hit baseball against the Arizona Diamondbacks today, and has set down like 20 guys in a row.
