MLB License for PC games

Over the past weekend, I went out looking for a game for my PC to play Major League Baseball. In previous years, EA Sports had the license and produced games for the PC. I cannot find any 2006 game though. EA Sports 2006 baseball game is based on College teams. I’ve seen some other MLB 2006 games, but they’ve been for other platforms like Xbox or PS2.

I’ve heard that perhaps EA Sports lost the MLB license.

I’m wondering 2 things:

Is there a 2006 MLB baseball game available for the PC platform (or soon to be released)?

Who is the current MLB license holder for the PC Platform?

The official MLB game is MLB 2K6, put out by 2K Sports. It’s not going to be out for the PC, but is or soon will be for the Xbox, Xbox360, Playstation 2, Gamecube and PSP. Here’s the link to the game’s website:

There’s also “MLB '06:The Show”, out for PS2 and PSP.

So to answer your question, I don’t think there are any MLB licensed baseball games for the PC this year.

Has console gaming overtaken PC gaming by that much that it’s not worth it to produce a PC version anymore? :dubious:

Sports games tend to do a lot better on consoles than PC, so the console versions tend to be made first.

Not so much as 2K Sports has an exclusive third-party MLB license, which means they’re the only ones who can even produce a game (except for the Backyard Baseball series, which is still going strong.) 2K Sports doesn’t do any PC development.

There’s a vibrant mod community for MVP Baseball 2005, though, so it’s worth the investment.

That’s what I ended up picking up…

Can you direct me to some appropriate sites where the program is still supported or modded?

Thanks!!!

2K Sports got the MLB license just after EA’s Madden became the exclusive NFL-licensed football game. EA was freaked because ESPN was putting out a good $20 NFL game. These exclusive licenses suck, big time.
