MLB: March/April 2012

Ron Washington, perhaps. But that team is so good it hardly matters (except for, say, Game 6 of the World Series, but I digress…). Dusty is spectacularly bad, however.

Um, see above?

So is it to early for this Cardinals fan to be thinking my team dodged a bullet on the whole Pujols thing?

MentalGuy:

Ned Yost has made some pretty bizarre decisions in recent games. However, those are way less to blame for the Royals’ horrible start than the lack of hitting from Alex Gordon, Eric Hosmer and Jeff Francouer.

Holy cow, the Mariners swept the Tigers!

He must have compromising photos of Mr. I.

Get ready to see some glamour shots tweeted from @Binge15 that humanity has no business seeing.

Some places should simply not be tattooed with the Old English “D”.

In his follow-up to his perfect game, Phil Humber got shelled, giving up nine earned in five innings to the BoSox.

Delmon Young is ongoing proof that, as long as you can hit, being a complete fucking douchebag won’t keep you out of the major leagues. Six years to the day after he was suspended for throwing his bat at a minor league umpire, he’s in trouble in New York.

Nice one!

I heard a parody song on this topic, years ago. I think it was Bob Rivers who did it:

Let me take you down to Yankee Stadium where
[Darryl] Strawberry fields
While making drug deals
As long as he can hit 'em out
Strawberry fields forever
Can’t remember the rest of it, but it was funny.
Also, the Mariners beat the Blue Jays tonight on a Michael Saunders grand slam off the bench in the 10th.

And I also can’t help noticing that Fielder’s and Pujols’ teams are playing .500 and .300 ball, respectively.

Oops, my bad, I misheard while listening to the postgame show (missed the game due to work, but got off in time for the postgame). Saunders didn’t come off the bench to hit that grand slam.

Saunders’ go-ahead grand slam was his second homer of the game, as he also hit one in the ninth. The Jays would have won in regulation if not for a horrible error on a routine grounder that should have been the third out in the ninth.

The future of baseball is coming! Both Mike Trout and Bryce Harper are arriving this weekend. The Angels are releasing Bobby Abreu to make room for Trout. I feel sad for Abreu, a very underrated guy, IMHO.

Weird game in Denver tonight between the Rockies and Mets.

[ul]
[li]18 runs scored in an inning and a half. Rockies 11, Mets 7[/li][li]Ruben Tejada hit for the cycle.[/li][li]Ramon Hernandez hit a Grand Slam[/li][li]Players reached base by hit, error, fielders choice, BB, catcher’s interference, HBP. Also a stolen base and a caught stealing.[/li][li]Six errors[/li][li]Carlos Gonzales had five RBI in one inning[/li][/ul]

It is 18-9 Rockies at the top of the eighth.

New and improved bullpen my pink ass.

R.I.P. Moose Skowron.

The Nats went back to not scoring runs the past two nights, so they racked up a couple of one-run losses to go with their already extensive collection of one-run wins. C’est la vie. But hopefully Bryce Harper can help the offense find a spark.

I am super excited for tonight’s game. If I still lived in LA I would beg borrow and steal to get to the stadium.

Harper debut, Strausberg pitching, Billingsly pitching, Matt Kemp hitting like a man possessed, the battle for 1st place in th NL (month of April limited). It’s going to be great.

Would have been better, if Henry Rodriguez hadn’t blown that 3-1 lead in the ninth. Ouch. Wasted another excellent outing by Strasburg, and a good debut by Harper.

I don’t feel so bad about losing in the 10th on Matt Kemp’s HR, because Kemp is pounding the hell out of everyone, but dammit, we should have been able to hold that 2-run lead in the ninth.

He was 81, pretty amazing. I know he had a good relationship with Jeter who seemed to treat a lot of the older old-timers like great uncles. That must be really cool for the old-timers and Jeter. Moose was a very good baseball player and had 8 all star appearance and 5 rings to his credit. Not a Hall of Famer but a very good player. My dad remembers him well. Maybe the third best Yankee first baseman. I know he was also good in the World Series. Had several big home runs and played a sharp defense by report.
Yanks are really having some early season pitching woes. Garcia has been worthless so far and Hughes about the same. Oddly both had promising springs. CC is coming around and Nova has been mostly good but Pettitte is still probably 2 weeks away and the Yanks may decide to give Phelps a start over either Garcia or Hughes soon.

I thought about going and got lazy. I may regret that. But I still jumped up and down and yelled at the TV enough to have a scratchy throat this morning. Two great games so far, although the Nats should have won last night.

Indians finally win a home series, and finish April in first place in the division.

So far, their ground ball pitcher experiment seems to be working. Derek Lowe had another great start today.
