MLB: March/April 2019

Spring Training has officially ended. All 30 teams play on 3/28 to help set the mood.

Time for your thoughts, hopes and predictions. Who’s your team(s), and what are you expecting out of them this season? Who are your early guesses for ROY, MVP, Cy Young, and Comeback POY? And where do Kimbrel and Keuchel end up?

Welcome back, Baseball. You’ve been missed.

BASEBALL

(Baseball)

Great time of year! We’re all undefeated! Well, except you Oakland. I for one hope to see a little better baseball this year. More running, more strategy. Who am I kidding, we’re in for another year of everyone playing for a bloop and a blast.

Heyy batterbatterbatterbatterbatterbatter

ssssssssswingggg batta

These 2019 season leaders stats will be enjoyable until tomorrow:

Batting Average
Tim Beckham - .714

Runs
Tim Beckham - 4

Home Runs
7 Tied - 1 HR

Runs Batted In
Domingo Santana - 5

Stolen Bases
3 Tied - 1 SB

Wins
Marco Gonzales - 1
Zac Rosscup - 1

Saves
Hunter Strickland - 2

Earned Run Average
5 Tied - 0.00

Strikeouts
3 Tied - 4

I bet Strickland holds onto the lead…

DeGrom has a shot to lose 20 games and still lead the league in earned run average.

Calling the under for the Astros on the betting line I saw recently of 97.5 wins. Not that I dislike them, I just think they had some remarkably good injury luck last year and still ‘only’ won 103. Plus, they had to replace 3/5 of their rotation, though I’m not terribly worried about their pitching. Just seems like people might be too bullish on them, though I still think they’ll do well.

ESPN had an interesting little poll about your picks for various things like MVP, Cy Young, RoY, etc… Lots of shrugs from me, but what are your guesses?

Once again this year I pledge to refrain from trash talking the Giants when they fall below 10 games behind in the NL West. The Giants are gunna blow chunks this year. My Dodgers are going to hold the NL West almost start to finish this year. Our current #5 starter (Urias) just threw 5 shutout innings against the Angels. We should be a little less streaky in our hitting this year.

Four shutout innings, but who’s counting? Probably felt like 12 to the Angels.

I mean, I’d bet the under on any team at 97.5. 98 wins is a lot of wins. You can have a hell of a year and go 95-67. It’s very common for the World Champion to not win 98 games.

Fangraphs doesn’t project ANY team in the majors to win 98 games and only one, the Orioles, to lose 98 or more (100, specifically.)

I don’t know. I think this Astros team will be remembered as one of the best of the decade. I almost didn’t mind losing the Series to them, they were very worthy.

I am so happy I have MLBTV. So much to choose from. And never a black out here.

Gonna stock up the fridge, lots of snacks. And enjoy.

MOOKIE!

Previews are pretty much picking the same 4 super teams in the east (houston, new york, boston, cleveland) plus one of tampa or oakland or California or maybe the Twins, LA in the NL West, and a giant scrum in the NL East and central - pretty much predicting last year. Not that I disagree.

I don’t think in my lifetime I’ve seen three teams more obviously dominant in one league than Boston, New York and Houston. I would not put Cleveland at their level - I am pretty sure they’ll win the Central, but I don’t think they’re up with the other three. It’s gonna be hard to be Tampa Bay.

But as Joaquin Andujar said, youneverknow.

Its time for Dodger baseball!

I’ve got Dodgers/Yanks in the WS with the Rockies making a string showing all of the way to the NLCS.

The Giants need to win 91 games this season on order for Bruce Bochy to end his career with a winning record. He’s already a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame, but I figure that going out with that +.500 mark, plus managing a 4th World Series winner in his final season, should be the icing on the cake.

On the off-chance that the above does not happen, I guess I’ll just root for the Not-Dodgers to win their 31st straight championship.

Play Ball!

Go Sox!! Its the best day of the year!

So weird that its this early but ill take it
