MLB: May 2021

Damn, that’s good.

Poor Mariners. They were no-hit twice in a one month period in 2019, and have repeated that ‘feat’ this year. Adding insult to injury, both no-hitters this season were in their home park.

The Mariners’ batting average has also dipped to .199 after the no-hitter, and we are already a quarter of the way into the season.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone is suggesting a mercy rule to eliminate the Yermin Mercedes incident.

I think baseball people should just stop being babies and be men and not pussies.

First, Tony Larussa lambasting his player. He claims he said to take the pitch. OK, the hitter disobeyed an order. But to put down his own player publicly? Not to mention apologizing to the Twins. I know he’s old-school but still, grow a pair TLR.

Baldelli is not much better. He instructs his pitcher to hit the batter on purpose the next game. The pitcher clearly did not want to do this but figures he has to follow orders. He also clearly has never done this, he missed “just a bit outside”. Rocco, that game was over, you lost big. TLR apologized too and this is how you react? Turn the page and forget about it. It’s like when you break up with someone, put it behind you. Instead, you acted insecurily and acted like a baby and unprofessionally as well.

I don’t want a mercy rule. That’s little league. This is the big leagues where these are supposed to be men, not little kids. You also never know when a team can come back, even from a ten run deficit. You give up on the game? Fine. These are professionals and there’s no reason for stupid unwritten rules such as not trying your best even if you’re up by ten runs or stealing a base when you’re so far ahead or swinging on 3-0.

I’ll be glad when we are rid of these dinosaurs.

Look, everyone was saying that LaRussa was old and out of touch before the season started and all he’s done is take a franchise that hasn’t had a sniff of success since the mid-2000s and put them right in first place. This is his first year back since a pretty legendary tenure in St. Louis and prior to that, Oakland. I don’t question TLR anymore. At all. If he says that the way to win games is to bunt every at bat, I trust him. He’s that wizard-like.

This could be an interesting 1-2 week stretch. I kinda felt that the Padres might be a sleeper contender for the NL title this year. A long way to go obviously but with the Dodgers flailing, they might just need to worry about the Giants.

Question not TLR. Confusing is his way of win. Bunt or do not, there is no 3-0 hit against the sign.

Seriously though, the guy may be old school in a few stuffy ways, but he can get his guys to get shit done like nobody else in the biz. He and Torre were / are ones for the ages.

LaRussa hasn’t done jack shit. The White Sox could have my dead dog as a manager and get decent odds to win the AL Central. The team is stacked and in a weak division.

Um, okay.

I’m in Chicago, and see LaRussa’s press conferences and interviews almost every day. On the one hand, he often sounds rambling, and he’s had some instances where he definitely seems out of touch or clueless (not knowing a specific aspect of the extra-innings runner rule a few weeks ago, publicly berating Mercedes the other day). On the other hand, the Sox are playing great baseball right now.

Also, FWIW, the Sox did make the playoffs last season, and they clearly had the core of a very good team before LaRussa came on board. So, I don’t necessarily chalk it up to LaRussa’s baseball “wizardry,” but at this early stage, it’s hard to argue with the results.

If Tony LaRussa died tonight, he could manage from the grave. He’s that good.

He certainly wouldn’t be worse.

Another no hitter in progress with Cory Kluber no hitting the Rangers through 8

And Kluber seals the deal for yet another no hitter and it’s not even Memorial Day.

I don’t recall any part of the “old school” where you didn’t handle this sort of thing in the clubhouse and remained a team in public. La Russa is an old racist fool. Whose fucking side is he on?

Yeah, when I first hear about this I thought the player in question was on the other team. What a clueless jackass.

Congrats to the Klubot, but maybe no-hitters will be weekly this season.

The Orioles’ albatross Chris Davis is out for the season after hip surgery.

By failing to appear in a single game this year, Davis will have his best WAR season since 2016.

It may take a no hitters to even be in the Cy Young conversation this season. Two or a prefect game to win?

Baltimore still has a team? lol

Kluber is pretty much appointment TV now. This game was 2:22 for time. What a joy. The no-hitter part was pretty nice too.
