MLB: Opening Day!

Vernon Wells torched the Rangers for four jacks and seven ribbies, not to mention a .692 average.

Last year, he didn’t get his fourth homer until May.

Stupid Cubs! Damn it, the Reds had that game in hand…blew it.

Fartsticks!

He later added,

I think he’s right. It may sound bad, but I think its generally true.

For the love of God, trade him while his value is high! :stuck_out_tongue:

You use a smiley, and yet if I were running the Jays I would trade him tomorrow for a bag of baseballs.

The smiley was for the prospect of Wells having high value. Hell, any value. Not even the Yankees would touch that contract.

I don’t want Wells to be tradeable so much as I want him to be valuable. If he hits something like .280 with 25 HR and 85-90 RBI, and he plays an adequate centerfield, then he has value. If he hits .300 with 30 HR and 100 RBI, then he’s valuable even if his centerfield defense is poor (or if they move him to right and he plays adequately.)

I don’t expect him to be worth his contract, but that’s moot.

Cubs…

<Nelson Muntz> HA-ha! </Nelson Muntz>

For the love of God, Joe Morgan, who the fuck gives a shit about what a small market team is (or is not)?

Last nine pitches in the Blue Jays/White Sox game: Ball, Ball, Ball, Ball, Hit by Pitch, Ball, Ball, Ball, Ball.

The last walk was with the bases loaded, too.

This umpire doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground. Konerko isn’t close to being in the batter’s box. He’s damn near standing on home plate!

Hey, RickJay and/or Rysto, is there any prayer of Ricky Romero pitching well tomorrow? My fantasy team is dying an early death due to bad starting pitching, but Romero has two starts this week and the second one is against somebody mediocre… how does he look from a fan perspective?

…aaaand the Reds are 4-3. Rolen can in fact still play. Thank you Walt Jocketty!

All set to go in LA for the final MLB home opener of the season. I think we Dodger fans are just going to try to forget that last week happened. Clayton Kershaw takes the mound today and attempts to keep his pitch count under 100 through the first three innings.

Go Blue!

I’m afraid that I’m just a casual fan, so I have no idea.

Great article by Curtis Granderson yesterday for Jackie Robinson Day:

Mets are playing an absurd game. Just took a 1-0 lead in the 19th!

Is this going to be the ongoing season thread? Not that I object, I just want to make sure I post in the right thread…

Until someone bothers to create another thread.

Some notes on the 20 inning Met/Cardinals game:

46 players were used in the game. The Mets used 24.

Yadier Molina catched the entire game. The Cardinals backup catcher was not used. Despite three innings of facing position players pitching and having speedy base runners on first, the Mets did not attempt a steal in the 18th, 19th, and 20th innings.

The Mets had 1 hit in the first 9 innings. Both teams got essentially shutout twice as there were no runs scored until the 19th inning.

In the 18th, Felipe Lopez moved from 3rd base to the mound for the Cardinals. Pitcher Kyle Lohse went in to play left. The Mets got 1 hit off of him, by their pitcher Raul Valdez, who promptly got thrown out at 2nd because he didn’t realize he was supposed to slide.

In the 19th, the Cardinals switched position players bringing in Joe Mather. After Reyes walked, the Mets had Castillo sacrifice him over to 2nd. That’s right, against an outfielder who hadn’t proven he could throw strikes or make a pickoff throw, the Mets decided to give up an out. We will call this firing offense #1. The Mets did manage a run with a HBP, a walk, and a sac fly. Still no hits by their position players against position players.

Krod, somehow was still available for the save situation in the 19th. He walked Ludwick, and got bailed out when he got thrown stealing on a questionable call. Pujols then doubled and came around on a rbi single. Krod got out of it after that and brought in to the 20th. I’m not going to blame Krod who said he threw over 100 warmup pitches from the 8th to 19th innings. Firing offense #2.

The Mets finally got a couple of hits in the 20th and managed to squeak out another run on a sac fly. Pelfrey came in on his throw day to record the first save of his life. The game ended with 2 runners on and Pujols on deck. Krod, the only actual pitcher to up a run got the win. Remember that the next time someone claims wins tell you who pitched best.
Oh and Jimenez threw a no-hitter yesterday. One more than the Mets have thrown.

Now image now annoyed I’d be if we lost  Actually the game was rather enjoyable to listen to. It probably would have been more frustrating if I was watching the fox coverage.
