I just found out I will be traveling to NYC the week of October 3. Games 4 and 5 (if necessary) of the ALDS are scheduled for the 4th and 6th of October. I’m trying to figure out the possibility of the Yankees playing at home on those dates. What I can’t seem to find out is the format. Is it 2-2-1?. If so, then if they win the division they would be the home team and only Game 5 would be possible. If they are the WC, then Game 4 would be possible. Is that all accurate?
I’m pretty sure it’s 2-2-1, as in the past, but are both ALDS series on the 4th and 6th?
ETA: Yep, looks like.
Yes, you are correct. 2-2-1 and if they win the Division they are very likely to have the better record and would be home for Games 1, 2 and 5.
If Yankees instead end up the Wild Card they’d be home for Games 3 and 4.
Ok, thanks both of you. As much as I’d prefer they sweep whomever they play if they make it, it would be great to see a playoff game in the new stadium. Haven’t been there yet since I moved south 7 years ago.
Is MLB doing the pre-purchasing of playoff tickets for every team, like they did last year?
I don’t know. How did that work?
Ah - I found it:
Interesting. I have a contact in NYC though who can get great seats if the schedule works out.
Go for it. You’ll get your money back if the game isn’t played, and if it is, it’ll likely be better than seeing a game early in the series–it will mean that the teams are well-matched, there’s more at stake, and you might get to see the clinch!
