MLB Playoffs

It was a rough night for relievers last night. Weaver and Holmes were both awful. Clase pitched more like Class B.

I think it’s used most often for hitters who look for first pitch fastballs over the plate. Last night, I’m pretty sure Judge guessed the location because that’s where Clase goes with two strikes. So maybe not an ‘ambush’ but he was looking for that particular pitch/location.

Clase only gave up two homeruns all season, both to righthanded batters and both to right field. Judge’s homer was the result of good scouting.

The feast-or-famine Dodgers at it again.

…though on any other date it would have been a strong score, now they head back to SoCal, the Amazings prevail 12-6

Meanwhile over in the AL they keep “doing it the hard way” run by run inning by inning.

OMG this game/series is going to kill me… :flushed:

You OK after that last play?

No. No I’m not.

The decision to summon Clase again right after yesterday’s disaster is… something.

Clase looks toasted.

And then the shortstop horks a play. My goodness.

Everyone has been looking toasted in this series.

That was a horrific strike call for the first out in the bottom of the 9th.

Yanks hold on, oy the torture.

Yanks up 3 to 1.

PHEW!

(yes Discourse that’s a complete sentence)

Yeah that was, like, “say what?”

It’s a win but it was not pretty (and even in the last play it looked there for a moment like they might mess up again).

Yeah, you’re not wrong. Umpire was pretty good overall.

At this point, the Guards have been quite a menace to the Yankees and we’ve played some amazing baseball so I am satisfied whatever happens. We did NOT hand them a cakewalk to the WS (IF THEY EVEN GET THERE).

Some guys, most of them named Naylor, finally found their bats and I am pleased.

Two straight nail biters. Hope today is a cakewalk to the WS for the Yanks. A lot of people rising to the occasion- Stanton, Verdugo, Rizzo, Volpe, Judge… I thought Rizzo was not quite his stellar defensive self and that Berti is a good glove wherever he goes. Ditto for Cabrera. The bullpens, normally a strength for each team, were the weakest links in each chain. Gil was rocky at first but settled down. How about a novel idea- let the starters go six innings? For the longest time I thought that Cleveland had a pitcher named Kate Smith. I thought perhaps he’d sing God Bless America. But it’s Cade. Enunciate, announcers.

Maybe the weirdest stat in the Yankees v. Guardians series.
Tommy Kahnle has thrown 44 pitches in the last 2 games and every one of them were a changeup. Keep in mind, he is a mid-90s fastball pitcher.

In his 5 outings thus far this October, he has a 0.00 ERA in 7 innings.

He only had one Inherited Runners, but they didn’t scored. So strange and excellent so far.

I just read that the Mets accomplished something last night that hadn’t been done in a postseason game in 22 years.

They did not strike out the entire game. The last time that happened was in Game 2 of the 2002 World Series.
