MLB Playoffs

Peralta is doing a great job in the field. (Quite annoying as a Yankee fan). But Cano should have been called safe.

ETA: I think Jeter just picked up his 200th hit in the post season, last inning.

Yankee fans lustily booing A-Rod as he strikes out with runners on second and third with no outs, and he fails to even attempt running to first on the dropped third strike. Detroit goes on to strike out the side and escape once again.

Loving this.

Those bloodsuckers are even lustily booing Granderson.

Fun night so far! Plus we keep this lead, and Valverde can stay on the bench.

Oh fuck, it’s the Potato. You’re killing me Leyland.

Fucking Valverde. I think everyone in Detroit could’ve managed this inning better than Jim Leyland.

geez louise, haven’t we seen this, like, 5 times in the last WEEK?

Ibanez will never pay for a meal in NY again.

Okay, by my count, in 21 postseason games so far:

–4 extra-inning games, 2 of them sent there by a HR in the bottom of the ninth and one of those capping a 4-run rally;

–2 9th-inning comebacks to win in regulation, both of them from a 2-run deficit in the ninth and one of those wiping out a 6-run lead earlier in the game;

–2 games settled in the 9th after being tied at the end of 8;

(that’s 8! games settled in the ninth inning or later)

along with

–1 8th-inning comeback to win by 1 run;

–and a bunch of other games settled by just 1 or 2 runs.

not bad.

The Most Interesting Man in the World has a Raul Ibanez poster on his bedroom wall.

Please allow me to perform my annual fist-shaking at whatever asshat decided that college football needed to be played at night. Once again, an MLB postseason game is being preempted by Washington State Cougar football on my local ESPN Radio affiliate :mad:

At least it wasn’t a Gonzaga volleyball game.

I hate the Yankees, but I love Ichiro and Ibanez. I am happy to see them doing so well.

Has anyone else heard a fan chanting “asshole”? Because it’s cracking me up!

Ugh

Think I saw #2’s knee crack on that dive. Anyone else see that? I don’t think that injury was his ankle.

Yeah, I have a bad feeling that was an MCL injury or something. That was a bad half-inning. The ninth-inning rally was awesome, but the Yankees left a ton of men on base during that game - which to me was reminiscent of some disappointing playoff runs in the past. If they want to make this a series they need to get some of those guys home.

Fractured ankle. End of season for Jeter.

Ouch. Not as bad as an MCL I guess, but we definitely won’t see him until spring anyway.

I’m happy to see Ichiro get some postseason play, but can anyone name what the Mariners got in return off the top of their head?

When I saw what happened to the Nats, I spent a lot of time wondering which would be worse - losing the way my A’s did in game 5 (getting their asses handed to them by Verlander, never even sniffing a lead) or the way the Nats did. I kinda think the A’s loss was worse because we just never had anything to be happy for in that game, but I dunno. Getting so close then getting kicked in the balls like that… Tough call.
