I’m a bit disappointed in how poorly the Yankees have been doing, just because the Yankees in the World Series would give much of America someone to root against, and if it turns out to be a Cardinals/Tigers series, we’ve been-there-done-that just six years ago.
And then 38 years before that!
As a Tigers’ fan, I’ll take it. Us and the Cards have a deal where we rotate between who gets to win the WS, and this year the arrow’s pointing our way.
I’ve been kind of rooting for the Yankees for exactly the same reason.
Jas09 - link to Mike Shannon video? I’m not sure I’ve ever seen video of him play. And I absolutely believe he played dirty!
The Giants and Tigers have never met in the post-season.
Giants and Yankees last met 50 years ago, so this would be a good time for a repeat.
Okay, since both Cincinnati and Washington died premature deaths, I’m rooting for Detroit now. Go Tigers!
It was in a comment at this post at VivaElBirdos: The St. Louis Cardinals were not very good in Game 2 of the NLCS - Viva El Birdos
If you search for Shannon you should see it. I’m not sure how to direct-link to it. This may be it: http://cdn2.sbnation.com/fan_shot_images/267845/shannon_hl_150_o_256d100_nn_nd.gif
On review it was a tag play, so not really analogous to what Holliday did - still a pretty interesting video, IMO. Actually a clean, (very) hard slide. Slapping away the helmet is a nice touch.
Seeing the Yankees lose is about my third favorite thing about baseball, but I have to admit that I’d really enjoy a Giants-Yankees World Series…but I’ll take Giants-Tigers even if it doesn’t have quite as much panache.
And frankly, if the Cards win the NL my interest is going to wane dramatically in any case.
Looks like their going to get a few innings of SFG v. STL in before the rain comes (and it looks pretty likely it’s going to come).
Also Beltran out after his first AB with an unspecified injury - the way Holliday, Craig, and Molina have been struggling the Cards can’t afford to be without that bat.
ETA: On edit I see that Beltran was removed for what’s being called a knee injury… not good at all…
Or not, as his replacement hits a 2R HR for a 2-1 lead in the 3rd.
“The Cardinals announced that Beltran exited with a left knee strain and is day to day.” I hope it’s not too serious.
And at least his replacement, Matt Carpenter, “was 4-for-4 in regular-season at-bats against Giants starter Matt Cain.”
Oh, look—he just hit a home run.
I’m at work so I have the mlb.com ‘Gameday’ up to follow it, but I don’t have TV or even radio…how bad is the weather looking? I know that earlier there was a lot of doubt that the game would start on time, but it did…I was hoping that was a good sign…
It will almost certainly rain, probably within the hour from what I can tell looking out my window at work. But it’s the Midwest, so “yaneverknow”.
Blech… giving up walks and hits to the bottom of the lineup again. At least Bochy is content to give an out away.
Gee what a surprise, a long standing MLB standard of practice suddenly changes. You can’t possibly let a game start [sub] when the golden $$$market boy’s white knight may have to have his start cut short [/sub] when rain is 2.5 hours away. You would have to go back to a prehistoric time[sub] 5 hours previous[/sub] when things like that were allowed to occur. And on top of it all it seems Sabathia has gotten a normal amount of rest surprisingly after all, what an objective occurrence.
From what I hear, the Detroit pitcher is the bigger prima donna about warming up. Say what you will (and you did), but Sabathia is a work horse about this stuff.
Besides, pitching hasn’t been what’s killing the golden $$$market boys. When you give up between 1 and 3 runs a game, you expect to win those games.
If you’re going to blame the Yankees for a rain delay, just say they control the weather. If you’re going to go there, go grandiose! The delay was stupid - nothing like a rain delay where no rain falls for an hour - and they scheduled the game for 4 pm tomorrow even though there is supposed to be a 90% chance of rain between 4 and 9. They could move it earlier or later, but that evidently was not considered. So the odds of the Yankees getting a large number of innings from Sabathia seem poor in any event. And because of the delay this will apparently be his only start of the series (assuming they find a way to win a few games) because the Yankees say they won’t pitch him on two days’ rest should this go to a game 8. Other than that, yes, this worked out great for the Yankees. The fix is in!
Damn Yankees! They don’t give anyone else a game 8!
Pablo Sandoval, you’d better be wearing a different uniform next season. A line drive bouncing at the foot of the left field wall, and you only make it to first? Then Posey hits another good one behind you, and you only make it to second.
That’s what pisses me off. I got off work Wednesday at 1:15PM Pacific, which meant I got to kick back at home, turn on the radio, and listen to both games. Instead, the AL game will be on Thursday, at 1:00 Pacific, while I’m stuck at work until 5:00
Hey, at least he hit the ball out of the infield. Hunter Pence needs to take some lessons…
