Doing the things a particle can?
Does anybody else find it somewhat silly to have headlines like “Detroit’s first World Series appearance since 2006”? I mean, with 30 teams and a 100+ years of baseball history, it seems to me that six years isn’t really a significant stretch of time between WS appearances. “First appearance since…” ought to be reserved for teams that actually haven’t been there in quite some time.
Next week, will we see, “The Giants’ first WS appearance since 2010”? “Cardinals’ first WS appearance since last year”?
What
Out of curiosity, what kind of Hughes are we talking about?
How about “Cardinals’ second WS appearance since 2006”?
That one doesn’t annoy me. It conveys different information, though I think a better wording might be, “Cardinals’ third WS appearance in seven seasons”. “First since …” implies that something hasn’t happened in a while. For example, “Miguel Cabrera is the first to win the Triple Crown since Carl Yastrzemski did it in 1967” - it’s a matter of scale.
Yeah, I get all het up when I hear stuff like this. “The Steelers’ first three-game losing streak since 2010!” Big fuckin’ deal!
The one who is named David Price. For some reason, I often conflate him and Phil Hughes. Dunno why. My bad…
And the Giants manage to manufacture a run. So far, so good…
Time to pull Carp. He’s not ready.
Please pull Carp. It feels like Matheney is reluctant to pull until it’s a total disaster. The whole bar will be screaming at the TV and he wont pull for another whole inning :smack:
I am watching this one from home so I am drinking…and now heavily
No—please pull Vogelsong.
Hah true. This is killing me. End of October begins my stress season at work - I don’t need game 7s too! Pull it together Birds!
And we’ll see you again tomorrow.
I’m just sitting here with a GIANTS smile on my face.
Let’s go Giants!
Let’s go Giants!
Let’s go Giants!
Let’s go Giants!
Let’s go Giants!
Let’s go Giants!
OK, so that wasn’t my favorite ball game ever. But, however Game 7 goes down tomorrow, this whole postseason has been worth it. Why? Because my kid just asked if he could play baseball again in the spring.
Where was Holiday today, anyway?
Matt Holliday - I think Joe Buck said he had a strained back.
Truth be told, the Redbirds scare me. They are strong; they fight to the end; their lineup is loaded. Matt Cain has his hands in full tomorrow’s game.
It’s an exciting series!
My dad’s favorite team is the Cardinals. My stepbrother’s favorite team is the Giants. I’m staying with them right now. Tomorrow will be fun.
Cardinals fans: How are you feeling about tomorrow’s game? I feel like Cardinals fans are all like “whatever, even if we’re down 4 in the 9th we’ll come back to win, no sweat” because of this team’s insane comebacks over the last couple years.
No, I don’t feel like that. Certainly not against the Giants, after what they pulled off in their Division Series.
