Mercifully, it’s just about over. Congratulations Giants!
Hm, it’s not raining at all down here in San Jose.
Unless they go to a rain delay.
With 2 outs in the 9th.
Of a 9-0 game.
The Giants’ NLCS celebration will take place on an ark.
YES!
Exactly the way they planned it
Yay! The Giants win the Pennant!
Tigers in 3!
Just trying to help out my Senior Circuit friends…
Congratulations to the Giants for a well-played, hard-fought series. Y’all deserve to go to the World Series.
Dad’s kind of bummed, but some double chocolate cake will make the pain go away.
So the Yankees manage 2 runs in their final 3 games, and the Cards just 1. Whoda thunk it?
Wow, the Giants won it. I love it, but really didn’t expect it. Congratulations to the Cardinals for their strong season, they’re a class outfit with classy fans.
It’s baseball, folks. It’s never over 'til it’s over. All the doom and gloom over just having to win three ballgames.
I’ll be rooting for the Tigers, since I’m an American League fan, but it was exciting listening to the NL series. And I now have two former roommates from St. Louis who are probably cursing the Giants right about now
Though for what it’s worth, the Cardinals are my favorite NL team. Sorry to see them out of it this year. They were the NL representative in the 1987 WS, the very first WS I ever paid attention to. Not to mention that my last name is Osborne, and the Cards had Osborne “Ozzie” Smith*, as well as Donovan Osborne
- It’s weird finding out that your last name also works as a first name…
The best thing about the World Series being Tigers vs Giants is that the “This time it counts” All-Star Game" was actually decided, pretty much, by members of the two teams who really care about home-field advantage in the World Series.
Dear Stl Cardinals,
Please watch this one minute Dick’s Sporting Goods ad.
Love,
Cardinal Nation
Looking forward to watching two great teams slug it out in the WS.
I swear, I never thought I’d see the day when I was wishing Furcal was back in the line-up.
Overall, the Cards went further this season than anyone expected (even them). They have some young pitchers with a lot of potential, their rookies got some experience in the postseason, and now we can stop talking about Matheny not having any managerial experience. I’m optimistic about next season. (Not to mention still happy that the Angels have been done for a while now.)
And now that the NLCS is over, go Giants!
In Kozma’s defense, he was moving that wrong direction ***just as ***Pence was swinging, not after the ball was hit. Kozma was trying to fill the gap between short and third, and Pence’s slow grounder, normally an easy play at short, rolled past Kozma on the second base side.
It is a “baseball gods” thing.
Perhaps.
But throwing home on a chopper while playing at double-play depth was a “rookie trying to do too much in a big game” thing. Not that it mattered in the end.
I really hope the Cards don’t get too enamored by Kozma’s unsustainably playable Sep/Oct and think he’s some sort of solution at SS. MI and an actually useful bat or two for the bench are the key areas to address this off-season. That and teaching Matheny not to order sac bunts, basically ever.
Hey, Marco Scutaro should be available…
That, and when to pull his pitchers earlier.
Scutaro is 36 and having a career season. Great timing, and he should cash in with someone, somewhere.
Considering some of the people they’ve tried to put at shortstop in recent years (Ryan Theriot, Brendan Ryan, Greenes Tyler and Khalil), I’m quite happy to have (a healthy) Furcal there.
To me, the surprising thing is not how far they managed to get without La Russa or Pujols, but how far they managed to get without making any major acquisitions during the season. Even with the loss of some key players for much of the season, they made it all the way to Game 7 of the NLCS with almost all players who were in the organization at the beginning of the season.
I think the 9th inning last night showed that a directive must have been issued: this game will finish tonight. I’ve never seen it rain so hard in a baseball game; if they didn’t suspend it then, there is no such thing as a rain suspension during a Game 7.
