MLB Playoffs

Well, I hope now the Cards have really gotten all the offense out of their system.

I waited 79 years for this?

If only Strasburg had been starting every game—then the Cardinals wouldn’t have had any offense at all. :stuck_out_tongue:

Apparently the Giants’ bats turned up, and they had them FedExed to Cincinnati.

Of course he also would have had to drive in at least one run today… but I wouldn’t put that past him.

But yeah, if the Nationals flame out here not using Strasburg in the post-season will have to be considered a mistake, right?

It’s hard to believe that without a bloop hit in game one this series would likely be over. Now it’s Lohse vs. Detwiler followed by a possible Wainwright vs. Gio rematch. Cardinals really need to take it tomorrow or I don’t like their chances in Game 5. Gio won’t be that wild a second time.

Jesus. I am losing hope for the Reds. The worm has turned. Having a game 5 doesn’t bode well. Fuck. Its like Cincinnati sports used up all their magic from about 1974-1990 and now there’s nothing left.

The thing with the Nats is that Gio, Zimmermann and Edwin were going to start games in the playoffs anyway. Strasburg can’t be blamed for their bad games.

The only different is they have Detwiler starting instead of Stras in game 4. If the Nats lose that game, then you can maybe say that not having Strasburg had something to do with it.

FWIW, Giants fans aren’t happy about having to see Latos again. He’s been a thorn in our side since 2010 with the Padres.

Maybe if Latos wins game 5 the Reds will buy him that extra T that he’s missing.

Go, Matt Cain, Go!

Go Giants!

Well, Cain versus Latos should be epic, if nothing else. Hate for the Reds to go out like this if they lose. Stupid Cueto.

sigh Why does it have to be one of my all-time favorite players who wins the game for the Yankees? I don’t know whether to cheer or not!

I can’t believe Girardi had the guts to pinch hit for A Rod. It was definitely the right move, but I never thought he’d make it.

That was some wonderful playoff baseball! And if A-Rod is in the three-hole for game four, someone needs to hit Girardi with a shovel.

Not until we see what the Nats do next season. To be honest, this year is for getting the Nats some playoff experience and building their fan base. Next year is the first year where they really have a shot to go far into the playoffs. Stras is just one pitcher, but the Nats have been slumping across the board for weeks now.

Yeah, I don’t get it. At all. If A-Rod had a hot September, I could see putting him third in the line-up, but as it is he should be dropped to the bottom third. Does he have four or five more years on that idiotic contract? God, I hope he just retires. Sure, give it one more year and if he can’t come close to what he was, just give it up.

Ibanez becomes the first player to ever hit two homers in a post-season game he didn’t start.

One hell of a solid performance by the Tigers crapped away by Valverde in 1/3 of an inning.

Unbelievable comeback by the A’s. Words are failing me. I can’t remember anything like this. The neighbors were banging on our walls because my wife & I were screaming so loud. Now we get to go to game 5!!!

The A’s are just amazing me this year.

Here’s the thing about this A’s team this year. There have been a lot of great A’s teams in my lifetime. The teams with Dave Stewart, Bob Welch, & the bash brothers were amazing. Their teams during the early 00s with the big 3 and Giambi/Tejada were amazing. With this team, I can’t really objectively say they are amazing. They don’t even seem especially good. Their regular season team batting average was .238. They struck out an AL record 1387 times (and show no signs of slowing down).

However, they somehow manage to come through again & again. I have never been surprised more often by a team. Tonight was a perfect example. I thought they were done. Scherzer was just mowing them down. Gallego made one of the worst base-coaching calls ever waving Drew to 3rd on his double, absolutely murdering our momentum. Everything was primed for a “Well we had a hell of a season” finish, and then in the blink of an eye they came back.

Now we get a game 5, against the 10’ tall Verlander. On paper it looks pretty hopeless, but at this point you can’t count them out until the last out is recorded. Here’s hoping there is some more magic left in the bottle.

That’s know as “The Tiger’s bullpen sucks” effect. I seriously wish Leyland had the balls to screw the standard format, and back starters up with starters.Every starter has looked incredible the last few weeks, If Verlander does get tired (and I don’t think he will leave the game with fewer than 130) I hope they bring in Fister.
