MLB: Postseason 2015

I think from what the announcers were saying, if he’s in the batter’s box, it’s not interference unless the umpire thinks it’s intentional. I take from that the thought that if he’s not in the batter’s box, his intent doesn’t matter? Not sure about that, but it would make some sense.

We had another dopey live-ball play on the Dodger game sending runner to third then scoring on a sac fly.

Great game so far though. Still have no clue who’s taking this one.

Dopey Dodgers, I assume you mean–neglecting to have anyone watching third base with runners on.

I take some small comfort in knowing that global warming will render all of New York City uninhabitable by 2030. Fucking hippies.

Well now, the Cubs can extract a little revenge for 1969.

And it turns out, THAT play-- plus the next one as a sac fly brings him home-- is how the Mets win. Dodgers bats? Donde?

They might’ve we’ll have swung wet fettuccine at the ball instead of bats. Did you see the last two batters (Ellis & Kendrick)?? They were swinging weak at pitches in the ground.

But I’m still all Cubs! (I thought the Dodgers would be an easier beat! :D)

Fuck!

Well I really don’t care who wins the NLCS as long as they end up winning the world series.

YOU GOTTA BELIEVE

…besides, if any town is going to choke on its own waste products, it’s
LA.

It really didn’t feel like the Mets deserved to win that game. DeGrom pitched pretty poorly, but scattered his baserunners and got out of just enough trouble; Greinke pitched very well, but the Mets scratched out a few runs. In the end the box scores looks unremarkable and fairly even, but it just felt like LA was in control the whole way.

I like that they went to Syndergaard in relief, but it’s troubling that they felt they had to: outside of Familia and Clippard the bullpen is bad, and I only kinda trust Clippard.

Familia was and is awesome, though. He’s objectively a better pitcher than he used to be, adding that unhittable splitter this year, mid-90s with a sharp downward break. I’m sure they won’t do it, but I wouldn’t mind him getting another look as a starter.

Daniel Murphy was responsible for all three Mets runs. It’s nice having him on the team. I hope they can bring him back on a reasonable contract this offseason, but I’m guessing any deal he signs will be too expensive. Anyone want to take a guess at what his eventual contract will be? (stats)
Bring on the Cubs!

All I know is that the Dodgers were playing great ball. Then Mattingly and Ethier get into a major shouting match in the dugout right after Turner steals third. From that moment, the whole happy “we’re gonna win this” vibe evaporated. Nobody looked the same after that. When Murphy stole 3rd, then scored, we were mentally done.

I sincerely hope I just watched Mattingly’s last game as a Dodger.

Congrats to the Mets. Question: Why didn’t Ethier let d’Arnaud’s 4th inning fly drop foul? When he caught it, it allowed the Mets to tie the score. The fly didn’t look to me like it would drift fair.

My recollection is that it was caught in fair territory, but I don’t have it DVR’ed and might be misremembering.

I was wondering about this too. What the hell was that about? I figured Don dissed his rant because of elimination-game jitters.

According to Mattingly, Ethier was mad at the umpire and Donny was just trying to calm him down so he didn’t get kicked out of the game. Not sure I buy it but that’s the official line thus far.

Wait. here’s the story on the Ethier Rant: Apparently Ethier was pissed at the ump call.

Whoop! Crossed posts!

Either way I am sorry, I’ve watched the Dodgers season out here again and they do not swing the damn bat enough. Kendrick looked absolutely like he was on acid on the last at bat. Even so, there were plenty of RISP, and Dodgers pitching was much better than I expected. Mattingly also seemed stoned on acid.

Overall, just an unexciting end to a great series.

Note to Cubs: Pitch around Murphy.

The video is here, at 0:48. Ethier could drop it in foul territory.

It was the 4th inning. That early in the game, you get the sure out.

If it had been the 7th, then you might let it drop, but at that point in the game, that was the correct play. Especially with Grienke on the mound, and DeGrom looking shaky.

Thx. In any case, the Dodgers did get the sure out.
