MLB: Postseason 2015

Those five-run innings are a pisser.

Yeah. :frowning:

A shame; he had pitched so well.
Felt to me like both starting pitchers were left in a little long.

Price was around 75 pitches going into the seventh. You can’t really take a star pitcher out at that point. Unfortunately, he completely went to pieces after the non-error by Goins.

Oh, I wouldn’t have taken him out at the start of the seventh by any means. But following four hits in five batters, with the lead gone and a man on second and a RH hitter coming up, I would’ve pulled him. (Easy to say in retrospect, I know…especially since it was the lefty, Gordon, who did the damage rather than the RH hitter, Perez.)

They do say that third time through the order is tricky for a starting pitcher.

Well that was certainly disappointing, but there are still 5 games to be played. I haven’t given up hope. Price was perfect and then fell apart. Stroman and Dickey will win the next two. Predicted here first.

Man, what a battle. The series between the Royals and Jays right after the trade deadline was such a great precursor to this ALCS. Great pitching and defense against an amazing offensive lineup is such a grab bag. I’m not sure how Price fell apart so suddenly, but it gave the Royals a chance to show off their offense as well. From 1 through 9, everyone is a threat to contribute. Toronto is going to prove extremely tough during their homestand, and we’ll see exactly what sort of effect that crowd will have when Cueto takes the mound, who seems pretty susceptible to a hostile environment. Royals in 5.

Cueto hasn’t even started yet. I love the Cubs, but, man, losing to the Mets’ll be a lot more palatable knowing we’d likely get plunked by the Royals.

Read what I said: “If Ethier had camped under the ball and dropped it” not, as you assume, “If Ethier had let the ball drop.” The former is an error and that rule doesn’t apply.

Players in the 60s did not celebrate on the field except maybe for the final out of the World Series or a no-hitter. It was extremely rare to see in a game. Nowadays, it’s pretty common.

I blame football. Players in the 60s never celebrated a routine touchdown. The rule was “play like you’ve been there before.” Now when I watch them crossing the goal and just letting the ball drop before going off the field, I find that far cooler than any sort of dance.

Daniel Murphy is on another planet right now. And Arrieta seems to have lost his magic.

Cubbies are playing. You tuned in Asimovian?

I suspect Toronto will force the series back to KC.

To be honest I am still a little disoriented at the fact Toronto is in the ALCS. Tomorrow after we vote we plan to walk to the neighbourhood bar and watch the Jays play for the American League pennant. I’m not sure I’m not dreaming.

KC is looking just like they did last year, kicking ass for the sake of kicking ass.

The Cubs are pissing me off beyond belief with the damn bats, or lack thereof. Snydergaard is a fantastic pitcher, and they should know how fantastic. The Mets had no problem figuring out how awesome Arrieta is/was and hit around him. No matter how good your pitcher is, be prepared to score 5 or more runs against the other guy, who’s probably as good as your guy.

Hey RickJay, could you please work your magic on David Price next? Tulo’s gone nuts since this rant.

And that’s the Johnny Cueto KC has come to know and fear.

I guess Ned just needs to only pitch him in Kaufman, where people won’t be mean to him.

RA Dickey sucks.

So apparently the reason why the Jays rocked Cueto so hard last night was that they were stealing signs from the centre-field bleachers. :dubious:

Too bad we forgot to do that in Games 1 and 2 in the ALDS.

Accusation of the Jays stealing signs is not new. And to be honest, it would be most effective against a guy like Cueto, who doesn’t have unhittable stuff, he just does a great job mixing it up.

Not saying I believe it, but if there was a guy in the outfield passing along signs, that’s BS and shouldn’t happen. If someone on the playing field (e.g. a runner on 2nd base) is passing along signs, that’s part of the game and pitcher/catcher need to do a better job of disguising signs.

Yeah, I think that it goes back as far as when the Jays had the likes of Vernon Wells and Alex Rios patrolling the outfield. Maybe the media should track down one of those guys and ask if there’s anything to it.

Oh wait.
