MLB Postseason prediction and playoff talk thread!

Congrats to the Phillies and all their fans. Well done and good luck in the World Series.

Congrats Phillies Phans!

The only way this could possibly be better would be if I was back home in Philly tonight, because oh, we’ve been waiting for this party for fifteen goddamn years.

There is no member of that team I am not madly in love with right now. Words cannot express how happy I am right now.

Good series, Dodgers and fans.

WoooooHOOO! Great win for the Phillies! Yay! Nice to be in Philly for this. Now, we wait to see who to face. Awesome game!
Great series to the Dodgers! Manny was incredible. I think he was 7 - 8 with men in scoring position. That’s amazing. I am glad the Phils were able to pull it off in spite of this!

Man. Frankford and Cottman in Philly looks crazy. Nothing but people all over the streets.

Congrats to the Phillies fans, and good luck in the WS.

As a Dodger fan, I’m obviously crushed tonight, but also proud of what we accomplished this season and how the team’s attitude changed in the latter half. When I made a bet* with my sister-in-law back in – what was it, May? – that the Dodgers would win the World Series, I had no real thought that we’d manage to get as close as we did. I’m still very, very proud to be a Dodger fan.

There will be some faces I’ll miss next year, and some I’ll be glad to see gone. But I’m looking forward to a stronger all-around year next season. It will be intriguing to follow the negotiations with Mr. Boras’ star client during the winter. I certainly wouldn’t object to having Manny back in Dodger blue.

*It’s still going to suck to have to wear Angels gear to a Dodger home game next season. But a bet’s a bet.

I was so happy last night I cried. 15 years ago I saw my favorite team go to the world series and then tear my heart out. This time around…I’m older and wiser and I’m just glad to be able to witness it again. For all of Philly’s faults…it’s still a good place to be a sports fan.

Congrats to the Dodgers for getting this far and putting up an excellent fight. And some day I want to see a game in that stadium…I bet it was loud as hell in there.

Next stop…Tampa?

Phillies vs Tampax Bay,who would have thought that?

The Rays haven’t won yet. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

We can hope though, we can hope.

I liked it better when the Red Sox were like the Cubs and couldn’t win.

Agreed, let’s wait until the fat lady sings.

Well, you can. I’d prefer not to, if it’s all the same to you.

I’m a Phillies fan and my husband is a Sox fan, so this is actually a nightmare scenario for us. Well, me – he’s got two World Serieses (?) since we got married, so it’s my turn, dammit! But I hate to see him unhappy. Hopefully he’ll share my joy, and not be a poopyhead. (Looks promising: he just bought some Phillies onesies for the baby.)

The Rays scare me, too, but … something about them reminds me of the Rockies last year. Same kind of play down the stretch, same confidence, same “starry alignment” sort of feeling in the first two series. And we already know how that WS ended for the Rockies. But they sure do look all but unstoppable right now. Would that the Phillies’ bats were as powerful, and then I wouldn’t have to worry about poor Jamie Moyer having a stroke.

The Phillies are probably just as good a hitting team as Tampa Bay. They scored more runs despite playing in the non-DH league.

Despite the horrible imposion of Boston’s pitching staff this past week, the Rays’ game is really all about the pitching and defense. They allowed fewer runs per game than any AL team except Toronto. Their defense turned more batted balls into outs than any other defense. Run prevention is really their strong suit. Assuming they make it, the real question is whether their pitching can keep Philly’s hitters in the park.

Philly would be the underdog in that series but it’s there’s some consolation to be had it’s that the one thing Tampa Bay was not exceptionally good at, defense-wise, was preventing home runs. They don’t give up very many base hits - actually, they gave up ridiculously few base hits, again second in the league - but you CAN hit homers off them, and that is Philly’s game.

Forget that! Crash and burn, Philly! I hope Tampa sweeps the Series. I refuse to be a good loser!

At least we stomped the Cubs’ dreams. That makes the year worthwhile. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think that was all the Cubs doing, your team was just a minor tool used by crushing destiny.

So serious question, what did you think of Torre’s managing during the post season? What did you see as the good and/or bad points?

I still think the decision to yank Kuo after giving up a single to Howard in the top of the 8th was questionable, but I didn’t have any issues beyond that. Greater minds than my own may have more input.

I thought Joe did a wonderful job. He managed to keep the youngsters and vets from killing each other. I can hindsight some decisions, but Joe has been doing this job for quite a while now. I will defer to his decisions.

I truly hope we make a serious attempt to keep Manny. We need to find another closer, and bulk up the bullpen in general. Other than that, I think we have a clicking team. I’m going to miss Kent at 2nd, but we have several youngsters that can take his place. We finally secured the corners, and the outfield is adequate to excellent. Give Joe the people he wants and stay out of the way, and we’ll be back in the playoffs again next October.

In the meantime, I might just put $20 on the Royals to go all the way next year. After Tampa, it doesn’t seem like that bad an idea.

Oh man! I was at my local, drinking beer and watching the Rays. Rays up 5-0 as Upton, Longoria and Pena continue to be en fuego. So I decide to be a decent dad and head home after the 3rd, so I can watch the rest of the game with my boy. Turns out Mrs. Shibb and The Girl are watching Ugly Betty. The Boy thinks the game is still 2-0 Rays. So I am going to be good and not check ESPN to see where they are now.

Check back with you in a bit, but so far, so good.

I’m gonna take bets on the Sox being the first team to come back from a 4 games to 1 deficit.

Any takers?

They don’t need to! The game is tied at 7 going into the 9th!

Never say die, Sox, never say die!
