MLB Postseason prediction and playoff talk thread!

The ONLY value a Red Sox world series appearance would have is to make Manny wish he’d behaved and stayed. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, that and another World’s Championship.

Just getting to Game 7 of the ALCS after Manny’s team has been soundly eliminated is sufficient, but I’m feeling greedy. Jon Lester’s awfully hard to bang around two games in a row, and I think we’re much more sound than Philly is, if we get past the Rays tonight.

I thought the Sox would have trouble winning game 6, but if they did that then they’d win game 7. So far, so good.

I think the “real” Lester will show up tonight, I’m optimistic. But the bats waking up is equally important.

I love Manny but do you honestly think Manny remembers there’s a sport called baseball? I honestly think he gets a call in March every year that goes something like this:

Agent: Manny, you been keeping yourself in shape this offseason?
Manny: Offseason? Wha? Yeah I’ve been going to the gym every day, why?
Agent: Spring training starts soon. You need to head down to Florida.
Manny: I guess I like Florida…but why? Spring what?
Agent: Remember that thing you did for eight months last year? you’ve got to do that again.
Manny: Already? [sigh] Okay.

This is much the same reason I don’t think he’s on steroids. Frankly, i’m not sure he knows what they are.

By all accounts, he’s one of the hardest working hitters in baseball.

And the least working fielder…

He’s such a fantastic ‘jock’ caricature. Put a bat in the man’s hands and he’s a genius. And I know I can’t really judge, but my god does he seem like Thicky McThickerson from planet Thick.

Snerk…Yeah, he reminds me of Vlad Guerrero, who never seemed to internalize the idea of the strike zone.
**
Coach** (holding ball illustratively on outside edge of strike zone)-You swing at this, it’s a strike.
Vlad-Yes, I knock the piss out of that pitch.
Coach (holding ball one foot outside of strike zone) You don’t swing at this, it’s a ball.
Vlad-Yes, I knock the piss out that pitch.
Coach-(After watching Vlad take BP) Fuck it. You’re freak of nature, unbound by the mortal law. Do whatever you want…

Absolutely. But a candidate for a Fields Medal he ain’t.

I’d be concerned about that if he was my child’s math teather.

 Holy cow. You guys must have some awesome schools in the Toronto area, RickJay.

I feel I should mention that he’s been my favorite player and had been since Cleveland (and remains so despite the fact that i’ve been a lifelong boston fan).

I’m not really concerned about his intelligence either (I’m not even sure it’s intelligence if you want me to be honest, I think he’s on another planet somewhere which is why I don’t think he’s concerned about what happens in Boston - and yes, I think he does want to win).

Two men out, one out, lefty up, Garza’s thrown 110 pitches. There’s no tomorrow if you lose today. Why the fuck is Garza still in the game?

Since the trade I’ve found I actually really like Ramirez, and I was pulling for the Dodgers in the NL. I always knew he was an amazing hitter, but now that he’s not doing his thing against the Yankees I can enjoy the show. The guy is weird but I don’t think he’s an airhead. I think he does his weird thing to deflect pressure and keep people at a distance a little bit.

Meanwhile, while I was away, Tampa surprised me by taking a big lead in this series and then made me feel sick by blowing it. But they’re up 3-1 in the home seventh…

Jesus, are they TRYING to give Boston as many opportunities as possible? Bradford comes in to face one guy and walks him.

Price in to pitch to Drew.

Got him, thank God.

Well, it’s looking like I’ll have some free time coming up, as I probably won’t bother to watch the Series. I’ll be rooting for the Rays, but I’ll have better things to do with my time.

(Yes, I’m calling it prematurely. Worked last time.)

Like I said before I was interrupted. Tampax and Philly, Who would have thunk it.

Tampa wins!

Didn’t this time.

Oh well. Good luck in the series, Rays. Hell, Phillies too. Have fun.

OK, now that baseball is over for the season…what are we going to talk about now?
