MLB Postseason prediction and playoff talk thread!

What makes Philly fans better than Boston fans is that the Philly fans don’t show up at everybody else’s ballpark and drown out the hometown fans. Man that’s annoying listening to a Red Sox @ Mariners game on the radio and hearing deafening cheers every time a Mariners player makes an out. (Granted, the Phillies haven’t played in Seattle too many times, so maybe my sample size is too small  )

Also, we’re nice to Jamie Moyer. But that’s because he’s good people.

Yes he is

God knows what you think of the Cubs, then. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well again, like the Phillies, the Cubs haven’t played in Seattle often enough for me to form an opinion (I don’t think either team has been in Seattle for more than one series). I just know that when I listen to a Mariners-Red Sox game played in Seattle on the radio, there is a loud roar of cheers every time a Boston pitcher strikes out of Mariner batter - louder than any cheers coming from the Mariners’ fans when it’s a Boston batter striking out.

What I’m saying, basically, is I don’t think the Phillies have the preposterous, nationwide fanbase that the Red Sox/Yankees have, so I doubt that, say, the Padres find their own fans outnumbered on a regular basis when the Phillies come to town.

Tomorrow the World Series will open up at the Trop, with the Rays the favorites to win the title. I was going to say that I should take acid before the game, but actually I don’t think it’ll be necessary.

Who knows, they might even sell out the game this time.

I kid. Somewhat.

I’m fairly confident the 450,000 ticket requests they got should cover that for you. Now whether people are willing to pay 5-10x face value being asked by scalpers is a separate question.

Whoo-hoo! One game down, three to go!

Pretty lousy game on both sides, the Phils left 11 men on base, but in the end they won, so I couldn’t possibly care less.

Go Phillies!!!

Well, WhatExit? as a Yankee fan I think you should really watch the company you keep. Mets and Red Sox fans? My gosh!

That was well before my time so I don’ t have any firsthand knowledge of it. But, my Dad’s dander was always brought up when the story is told. He explained to me that there were extenuating circumstances to the booing. A terrible owner, and a promised Christmas pageant that was replaced by a skinny non santa looking guy running between a bunch of cheerleaders with a red hat and a dismal wave combined to make for an angry crowd. They were not as much booing the erratz Santa as they were boing an owner who had dismantled the team and turned them into a perrienial cellar dweller a few short years after winning the championship in 1960.

But. Still. They did boo santa.

People were giving away tickets to Game 7 of the ALCS at gametime. You could barely sell the extra tickets because a Bucs football game was going on at the same time.

I’m sure the WS games will be sell outs.

Wish I could do that. Honest to God, I am mainlining Maalox at this point. The Phils have GOT to knock a couple of those runners in. They MUSTN’T go 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Stranding all those guys is a sin, and wasting all those extra-base hits is a crying shame. And whatever goofbag waved Victorino home in the 2nd inning should be shot without trial. (And if Victorino made that call himself, I … just don’t know.)

I mean, a win is a win, no matter how ugly, and I’ll take it, but … I don’t know if I am going to live through this series. My brain won’t stop working, FOX and ESPN won’t stop feeding me stats that I don’t know how to fully process, and Joe Buck won’t shut up. Seriously, FOX Sports has no one else that can cover a baseball and/or a football game? It needs to be the All-Joe-Buck-All-The-Time network? I … need a Valium.

HOWEVER. Odds look good that we’ll be able to steal a taco at some point this series. So that’s promising.

Well, I wasn’t quite as mellow during the game. The fielding was not remarkable either way, I didn’t think, but good god, the offense. I was doing plenty of cringing in the bottom of the ninth - it should have been a higher-scoring game to begin with, and it would have been really nice to get a slightly bigger lead, and it should have happened, but…ugh.

Honestly, I think a lot of last night’s suck was just a combination of the Phillies coming off a week’s rest, plus the weirdness of Tropicana Field. A domed stadium is weird, especially with those retarded catwalks. And 1970 called to say it wants its fake grass back. (Baseball should be played on grass, goddamnit, and under an open sky!)

And if you’re talking about the Taco Bell thing, we’ve already got our free taco, and we don’t even need to let the Rays take credit for it.

I was … what the hell game was I watching? Apparently I missed the stolen base while I was sitting on the couch with my head between my knees, hyperventilating.
