MLB: The Playoffs

Because he keeps threatening to close it. I don’t care either way.

Not remotely. The Phold of 1964 was way worse.

I don’t know which is more exciting - the fact that the Rangers are ahead or the fact that it is raining. I’m about 10 miles north of the ball park and I’m not getting the rain, though. Looking at the radar, it should not last long.

And Ryan Howard apparently has a ruptured Achilles and may miss Spring Training. Hell of a way to end your season.

Things seem to have calmed down.

3-0 Texas coming back off the rain delay. The loss of Delmon Young is extremely unfortunate for the Tigers.

Is Texas’s primary uniform color blue or red? Today they have red uniforms. But I’m sure in the LDS they had blue uniforms. I get that they’re copying colours from the Texas flag, but it seems lame to me to not have a consistent color scheme. At least they aren’t the Blue Jays, who feature uniforms with almost no blue in them, but tonight they look like the Angels and four days ago they looked like the Cubs.

Fox hired A.J. Pierzynski for the ALCS? I think I’d find a malaria parasite wearing assless chaps and a Hitler mask more likeable.

48 rain delays and it will still finish by 1:30. Not bad.

So what won the Texas - Detroit game last night? Good pitching or defense?

I didn’t get to see the first 4 innings, but I’d say good pitching, and good managerial decisions regarding how long to leave that pitching in. I’m not Ron Washington’s biggest fan, but I think he played it absolutely right last night when it came to knowing when to pull Wilson and when to bring on the relief pitcher(s). And holy shit the closer Feliz has a rocket for an arm! Taking away his one 88mph breaking ball(?), his slowest pitch was a 97mph fastball. He threw one at 101mph.

I think game 2 will be a better indicator of how the series might go. The rain delays threw a curve ball (no pun intended) on the flow of the game, so I’m not sure either team really got into any kind of rhythm.

My father-in-law was licking his wounds over the Oklahoma/Texas blowout yesterday, so I was glad to see the Rangers take out some of the sting! (He’s from Texas, my mother-in-law is from Oklahoma. It was a tense day!)

The rain gods hate Verlander.

Well the ALDS started the same way for the Tigers-- Verlander opens, has a rough start, is limited due to a shortened appearance thanks to rain, Tigers suffer eventual loss-- and that series ultimately went our way. So I’m calling it now: Tigers over Rangers in 5.

I agree. DET in 5. And the Cards will find a way to finish off Milwaukee.

DET vs STL: battle of the has-been rust belt for all the marbles.

Not to sound like a fanboy…

May the Spirit of '82 come down upon this series…with the same results!

Go Cardinals!

Maglio is out for the playoffs. He reinjured his ankle. I think he will retire.

The Cards have three more innings to make up for allowing that six-run outburst.

Fielder had a hell of an inning. When he hit the ground on that fielding play, I thought the New Madrid fault had cut loose. Then hit a blast in the bottom half.

No AL game tonight. :frowning:

And that just bites, too. I’ve spent all day trying to get caught up on chores so I could kick back and watch that game. I’ve missed most of the NL game so I could get everything done in time.

The rain has cleared out of the area. I put some fertilizer on the yard, so it’s pretty much guaranteed not to rain again until January, like it did last year.

Plus, the game is rescheduled to a time when I won’t get to watch it.

I guess I will just have to get the max enjoyment out of the last few innings of the NL game.

Me too. It’s a pain in the ass.

I just wanted to say that I was visiting family in Milwaukee this weekend, and ran into Bud Selig at Gilles Frozen Custard. He ordered a cheeseburger and soda, then sat alone in his car and ate it. It was weird - no bodyguard, no family, no fancy lunch meeting. It was the day after his (former) team advanced to the NLCS, it was just weird he was alone, ya know? I imagine he was on his way to the airport or something - but I just kind of felt sorry for him.

I’m a little late, but I just found out that Ryan Howard blew out his achilles tendon on his last swing, that he’ll need surgery and could be out for something like six months. This has to be the worst day in his career for him.

Probably just visiting a fixture on his old stomping grounds. Gilles being a stones throw from County Stadium / Miller Park where he probably spent a good portion of his career. He never seemed that interested in making the Brewers a competitive club and seemed content that people would turn out to watch baseball wether their home team was good or not.
