For giving us Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome he had better.
I did something similar last year on a very small scale, substituting the figures from the nativity set with Babylon 5 and Deep Space 9 action figures (Londo, G’kar and Garak as the Wise Men). I took photos to e-mail to a friend, who is Episcopalian, and she in turn forwarded them to her pastor and some of her church members. Everyone I heard back from thought it was funny and as far as I know, no one was offended.
I’m planning to do the same thing this year–and since I now have hobbits of an appropriate size, I’d like to incorporate them into the creche. But who gets to be Baby Jesus? (Frodo does have all the Christ imagery, but Pippin would be funnier…)
At least he’s tryin’…he’s tryin’ real hard…to be the shepherd.
Oh dontcha believe it.Someone would complain that it might offend people of other faiths and threaten to take them to court…
I’m a Christian who thinks GWB is the worst President the US has ever had. But IMHO this ain’t worth more than a passing , accompanied by the awareness that you can’t expect people who run a wax museum to be part of the reality-based community. The whole thing’s mildly stupid, but it isn’t hurting anybody, and one would have to be easily offended to regard it as sacrilege.
That’s my 2¢, anyway.
I thought it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. The intelligence of GWB (or lack thereof) is a common joke, plus very few would seriously consider Prince Phillip to be a wise man. Positioning them as Kings is really quite humorous. Similarly, the choice of Posh and Becks seems to me like a wink to the buying public’s obsession with celebrity.
I think the people crying bad taste are on the wrong track. We’re dealing with freaking Madame Tussauds here, one of the cheesiest and tackiest place on the planet.
Besides, most things which rile to Vatican please me.
