MMM Beer!

Beer in bread really. Friend at work brought something called beer bread into work. Very sweet, very tasty, very addictive. I want some more now, but he won’t yield it. So I am forced into finding out how to making it myself.

I found a good recipie, or one I think is good. (I have not tried it yet): For those interested, it is here.

What I am wondering is if any connoisseurs of this tasty pastry has any suggestions on the best type of beer to use.

This bread will wreak havoc on my Low Carb diet… (eating habit, rather than trying to lose weight) It is just so good, I will have to cheat once in awhile on it.

Beer bread sounds good, but personally, I prefer to skip the incidental steps and just have beer instead.

I have a friend who calls beer “liquid bread”, and that’s good enough for me.

What DAVEW0071 said…

But I do have a pretty good and easy to make recipe for a beer based bread:

(from Brew Cuisine: Cooking with Beer)

Quick Onion Cheese Bread

3 cup all purpose Flour
1 TBS Baking Powder
3 TBS Sugar
1 cup grated Old Cheddar Cheese
4 Green Onions
1½ cups Beer (I use a Brown Ale)
1 Egg, beaten
1 TSP Sesame Seeds
1 TSP Salt
½ TSP Pepper

  1. Combine Flour, Baking Powder, Sugar, Cheese and Green Onions, Salt and Pepper.
  2. Stir Beer in gently to form a thick, sticky batter.
  3. Pour batter into greased loaf pan, 8½" x 4½" (1.5L).
  4. Brush top of loaf with beaten Egg and sprinkle with Sesame Seeds.
  5. Bake in oven at 350°F (180°C) for 1 hour 15 minutes, or until loaf browns.
  6. Remove from oven rack and cool on a wire rack.
  7. Enjoy with a delicious pint of your favorite ale or lager.

Anchor Steam is very good for beer bread. S’what we always use…

I’m not familiar with Anchor Steam, I will see if any grocery stores around here has it.

sköt: Your recipie looks delicious, I will have to try it out.

The Saltgrass Steak House uses Shiner Bock. Very tasty in my opinion. Worth a try if there is one of these restaurants in you area.

Not affiliated with Saltgrass Steak House or the Spoetzl Brewery - I do drink plenty of their beer though.

I inspired myself and made a loaf right after posting…I’m eating a slab of it right now…mmmmmmm!
