We had a party a couple of weekends ago. To prepare for this party, we stocked up on foodstuffs from Costco, including a humongous bag of frozen meatballs.
We ended up with about 2/3 of the bag left.
Now, the meatballs are fairly tasty, for premade frozen meatballs. But my wife and I can’t eat more than, say 18 meatballs between us in one meal. So we’ve cooked pasta a couple of times and put meatballs in the sauce, but we still have half a bag of meatballs left.
Here’s where you can help: what other tasty things can we do with these meatballs? I’m not looking for super-fancy highfalutin’ haute cuisine meatball recipes – but if you have one, great. I just want some non-pasta-sauce ideas on how to serve them.
Soups: Italian Wedding Soup or Mexican Albondigas SoupAlso, try them instead of stew meat in your favorite beef stew recipe. Ditto in any stroganoff recipe.
Could you make Swedish meatballs with them, and serve them over egg noodles for a change of pace?
How about sweet and sour meatballs, a Southern party favorite? Put them in a crockpot and simmer them with a jar of grape jelly and a jar of Heinz chili sauce. They taste and look a LOT better than they sound.
-Chop 'em up and make chili.[Chili afficionados please be kind]
-Meatball sandwiches for a “ya’ll come” lunch at work.
-Become popular with the neighborhood dogs as you fling them from your kitchen window.
Similar idea: a jar of sweet-and-sour sauce from the “Chinese” (in quotes because I have my doubts as to the authenticity of the stuff) food aisle. Add some canned pineapple chunks and some green / red pepper chunks and serve over rice. We’ve done this a time or two.
Obviously this would depend on the seasoning in the meatballs - something heavy on the oregano might not go as well with that mixture.
I second that. One of my co-workers brings that for every potluck, and she’s just not allowed to bring anything else. I think she may throw in some Worcestershire sauce too. Delicious!
About all I ever do with frozen meatballs is: put about six of 'em in a small saucepan with some tomato sauce. Heat 'em up. Then, put the meatballs on a sub roll with some mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Eat with gusto.
