I was in my mother’s uterus when he was shot.
I was a bad and forgetful mommy today. As I reported yesterday, my daughter was ill and missed school. In my rush to get out the door and to work today, I forgot to write a note asking the school to excuse her absence due to illness. I’ve called the school and left a message, but I have yet to hear back from the school. I called them 0730 this morning, and it’s 10:00 now. I don’t want my daughter to get in trouble due to my stupidity.
I’m a sorta oldster too. I’ll be 42 in May. When the hell did that happen?! I could have sworn I was only 22 just yesterday.
My 39 year old sister had surgery yesterday and had her uterus and cervix removed. She also had (time for ick factor) severe endometriosis, so that had to be cleaned up too. At any rate, she had a real rough time of it, and they had a hell of a time getting her to wake up from the anesthesia. It took her nearly five hours to wake up. That’s a little scary. I’m going to call the hospital when I get home to see how she’s doing. I can’t call from work because it’s long distance and I’m one of those people who don’t have a cell phone.

Well, I think I’m done with that PITA report. Just waiting for okay from the chief before I post it to the site. After that, I have to get with the IMD folks so I can get Oracle installed on my PC, so that I’ll have backdoor access to the ICDB tables. I also need to have a sit down with our PA&E folks to talk about an ad hoc that I can get access to create a new provider schedule spreadsheet. After that, I have all my other daily PITA stuff I must do, in addition to my support form so I can show my incoming boss what I do for a living and what he needs to rate me on come October.
FCM, how’s **FCD ** today? Also, I have news on the NSPS front. Seems it won’t be crammed down my throat next month. It’s been delayed (at least for us) until October. Of course, this could change in the next couple of weeks. I still don’t want it to happen. In addition, I read that now even ranking Congress members are concerned that DoD is not going adequately fund NSPS so they’re looking into that as well.
Taters --5 hours to wake up is not all that uncommon. Unless they tried to reverse the anesthesia and it didn’t work.
Most post-ops I’ve taken care of basically sleep for about 10 hours. They may wake up for a few, but tend to nod off again.
She needs to remember to turn, cough and take occasional deep breaths to keep her alveoli open. Also, ASAP–outta that bed! In a chair and/or walking. (this is all dependent on the OK from the doctor).
Getting “active” and coughing help prevent blood clots in the legs, and pneumonia (in the lungs of course!). Hope she’s doing well.
I am back from returning library books and getting measured for support hose. (you all thought I was kidding, upthread, didntcha? Well, you be a nurse for 20 years and have 3 kids and get back to me on your varicose veins! No worries–they’re not visible, thank og).

eleanor, I realize that taking five hours to wake up from anesthesia isn’t all that uncommon, but my understanding was there were other difficulties. I’m not clear yet on what they were. Since I haven’t heard anything yet today, I’m guessing she’s progressing fine. My mother was freaked out last night because she felt that nurses and doctors weren’t doing a good enough job of keeping them informed and because they wouldn’t let her and my BIL in to see my sister. I explained the providers’ first priority was my sister, their patient, and they were taking care of her and doing what was best for her.
I have Viking blood in me, along with some French and Spanish royalty, German, and Rumanian. There’s a couple of other things, but those are the main things coursing through my veins.
Is it 1630 hours yet? This day is dragging, dragging, dragging. Where’s FCM?
I need to refresh and update some spreadsheets now. My work never ceases.
