MMP in the snow, uphill both ways

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/42f with a predicted high of 9c/49f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s probably a good day to stay the fuck in bed. Today will probably fucking suck.”

You’ll have to buy another one now, Sadie has made her claim to that one!

I’m sure Nelson appreciates the affection, and it’s therapeutic for both of you

That’s really sad, especially if your mum’s not able to stitch any longer. Is it something you can share with her by video or photos, so she can enjoy the progress?

That’s very true, people are very quick to criticise and send angry words to their representatives. It would be nice for him (and the person who opens his mail) to see something positive instead. A few kind words go a long way in dark times.

Glad to hear you got something soothing without having to venture outside. Hope you feel better today!

Yesterday was a good irk day, I got some stuff finished and did the job I’d been putting off for a while. After I logged off, ‘im indoors got home and we had a natter about his trip. I emptied all the bins and hauled the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection. We had leftover chilli for dinner and watched a couple of episodes of “You” before it was treat time for the cats and bedtime for me.

I was up at a reasonable time today, the cats have been fed, the litter trays are clean, and I have had some tea. Time to think about breakfast next, and more tea of course! The binmen have just been up the street so I can haul the biiiiig bin back to where it usually lives, and get on with my day. I need to do campus food prep and I’ve got a minion meeting this morning. Better get on!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 24 Amurrkin (feels like 17) out and clear with a predicted high of 46 and sunny. Today is laundry day. Oh the thrill! OYKW has a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for fried chikin, so the executive decision was made to go to the [s]hog trough[/s] GC for today’s main need to feed. We’ll do geezer lunch at eleven a.m. The rest of the day will be spent in RDOS inactivities as is our wont.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, laundry awaits! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

I need an MMP name?

Hah! I was off (snow day) yesterday, and am off for the “weather” today too. I don’t know if that means that they think so many people would call in, and so many parents would keep kids home, that it would be a “daycare” day, not a real “preschool” day. (That is, there’d be so much shuffling around, that no teaching would get done, and we’d just be keeping them safe, clean and fed.) Or if it means that the executive director decided to cancel all business and keep the building closed because of the cost to heat it at this point.

All I know is, 4-day weekend, 3-day work week, then weekend again, and we get automatically paid for two “Acts of God” days a year, and that is them, so I’m getting paid for sitting on my ass, mostly in front of the TV.

Woo-hoo!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 16 degrees Ferret Height(-8.889 Centipedes) and icy, so I shall bobsled Carmen to work. Spot is having Screaming Tuxedo Zoomies, and is batting ducks off my desk.

I’m glad I don’t have to haul our big bin around. Uphill. Both ways.

Mumpers get nicknames, which may or may not having anything to do with them. And you also have to go 10 rounds with Lenny the Squidgoat.

Pick your poison:
Renmark, South Australia
Today the mercury reached 49.6C

And no bloody rainbow anywhere to be seen.

Wait-- that’s like, dangerously hot, isn’t it? I’m a little shaky, having been subject to the US’s mid-1970s attempt to convert to metric, but isn’t that about 120F?

… and you’re telling me -16 C isn’t dangerously cold?

About that, well just a bit more.
We’d call it “rather toasty”.

It’s 11F where I am. Hasn’t gotten below, IIRC, -3, and that was overnight, and yes, it’s bad. My dog wants to go out and sniff around before she pees, but her paws get too cold. I take her out and tell her “potty” right away, but she doesn’t get it, because her desire to sniff around is so strong.

Poor baby.

Naw. EnviroCanada has dropped the “extreme cold – danger! Warning!" from its weather updates.

-16 is a nice fresh day. (Although it’s dropped down to 26 overnight. )

Lows in the -20 range for the rest of the week, but Saturday, warming up enough for some snow.

I thought about doing that. I should check my diabetes cookbooks and see if they have cookie recipes. I don’t know if freezing them will stop someone from foraging and snacking. His mother told tales of how she had to hide sweet snacks in Kotex boxes so her 3 ravenous sons wouldn’t find them. I don’t think a Kotex box in the freezer would work.

We’re starting the day with 9 Ferrets - I don’t remember the last time we had single-digit temps here. The rest of the week will stay under freezing and we may or may not have single digits at night. Accuweather and The Weather Channel are completely at odds about that. Not that the difference between 13 Ferrets and 5 Ferrets is all that significant - freekin’ cold is freekin’ cold!!

Yesterday, FCD chose to ignore my very wise advice about using a cane when walking between the house and his shop, and he slipped and fell flat on his back. That would be the same back that has had 10 spinal surgeries in the last 15 (or so) years. He worries so much about appearances, as if 1 - anyone is watching him walk across the yard and 2 - anyone cares. He acts as if accepting any kind of help makes him “old” or “disabled” or something. As I’ve said before, for a smart man, he’s occasionally stupid/stubborn because reasons. Anyway, he’s in a lot of pain but he won’t take time off to heal, because reasons.

I used the cane when I walked to his shop and I still had a difficult time. I could have used a staff like Gandalf used. Or maybe a pair of ski poles. The ice was so thick, I didn’t even break thru as I walked. It’s, um, unpleasant out there.

I’m going to mess around today with some scrap fabric and my sewing machine - I decided to experiment with the covers for the nav light boards rather than risk wasting the good fabric. I found my notes and I’ve been thinking about the best approach. I’ll make one (or two?) then take it to the boat for a fit check. That way, I’ll have a pattern. Theoretically.

So that’s my big plan for the day. We shall see how things go.

Happy Tuesday!!

Oops. Meant to reply to JtC. Had a case of Mixed Mumper-fors…

swampy, I have three legitimate loads of laundry, but rather wait until I can do 4-6 loads all in one day and be done with it, and haven’t run out of anything yet, so I think I will postpone it.

Tradition!!! Plus you seem to like being around here and your sounding like a mumper, so… We had a weather day yesterday but even with the cold (12F right at the moment) I suspect classes will be back in session. Looks like we missed the worst of the ice storm by about 50 miles to the west. And sitting around getting paid is what a lot of us retired MMP’ers do best.

Yep. Like I mentioned before, lived in the Middle East so go to known that, we often had highs of 50C (122F) , or at least that is as hot as they would admit it getting…You learn to adapt (there is a reason the Arabs wear long, flowing white robes).

FCM, few things stop a snacker on the hunt…I know since I am one. I try to use the smaller packages that come in set quantities/calories, and it works…sometimes. And hope Mr. Stubborn (FCD) feels better soon. And stays inside. Or wears hob-nailed boots on the ice. Or something.

And just about time to break my fast, so onward into the day. Only thing on the agenda is to visit the bank and fill up the gas tank as my car is nagging me about it. Been a full month between fill-ups and nearly 500 miles, so I’ll be curious on what kind of gas mileage I got.

Have a good 2sDay all.

1F this morning as we surge. . .well, trickle. . .into positive territory. We’re going on a lunch outing today for Chinese food, so no wind is a good thing.

Good morning everyone, it is a bright 6F morning and the sun is shining against the snow in lovely sparkles. Hubs took the bin to the street last night because that’s his routine, not because we thought it would be picked up.

The schools are closed today as are most of the government offices. Businesses are opening up again but will be short staffed because a lot of folks live on un-plowed roads and can’t get out yet.

I’m starting to think that I need to revamp my normal garb. Long, flowing cotton and linen aren’t that great in the WV summers. I just don’t know what my arms would do if they suddenly saw the sun…

No shorts though. We live by the highway, I don’t want to cause an accident by glare blinding drivers.

I assumed it was a coding error. Like you meant to quote me between the two statements.

Its just a temporary solution until you can give them away. It would only work for about a week around here and then the cookies would slowly start disappearing.

I’ll let you know about the brownies today probably. The road is clear and traffic is picking up again. I am not inspired to go out, but Hubs is getting a little cabin fever so a trip to the store might be good for him.

Its too late for this storm but would boots be an option before the next one? Because this is the new normal now, there will be another major storm next year as well.

I hope Onan is doing OK out there in the snow. Spot needs his regular vermin viewing.

It makes her sad when I send her pics of my work, so I’ve stopped. I think she’s regretting some of her choices now but its too late now. She promised me all of her needlepoint stuff and even wrote it down in her will, but chose to let one of her favorite daughters sell it instead. They didn’t need the money, the daughter just didn’t like having all that junk around the house so it had to go. If mom had sent it to me, I would still have it and might consider returning some of it to her.

Oh well, what’s done is done.

I’ve decided I’m going to sign up for the classes anyhow. It’s 300 bucks, but the project comes kitted out and I’ll probably spend four or five months working on it, so its actually fairly economical. (those little pieces I’m churning out every two weeks were 60 bucks each, I like to play with pricey fibers)

I hope its wrong and you have a very lovely day!

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 34F and mostly clear outside. We’ll have a daytime high of 47F, and clouds will start moving in later this morning, making for a mostly cloudy day.

JtC, I’m sending you hugs just because. I find it sad that you and your mother cannot participate together in your usual projects, and that your sister made that impossible.

Flyboy, fingers crossed on the new position.

We’ll be heading out to an optometry appointment for Mr. Taters a little after noon, and our dinner reservations are at 5:30 in downtown T-town. Since it’s downtown, I may take advantage of valet parking. We’re going to El Gaucho, and, having never dined there, I’m looking forward to it.

Thanks again for all the anniversary greetings.

Take care of yourselves.

The temp has moved to 17 Ferrets! The sun is shining brightly - maybe it’ll melt and dry the driveway?? I took the garden cart to FCD’s shop, mostly stepping in Otis tracks for traction. I helped him load the assorted panels into the cart, then used an upside down rake as my staff for returning to the basement. Kinda like a gardening Gandalf!

I’ve got a fire started and in a bit, I’ll add some significant wood to it - the smaller pieces seem to be catching nicely. I cleared the table of the parts I painted as well as the assorted stuff I used for painting. There’s a bin of stuff to go out to the shop and the cardboard that covered the table is on the recycle pile. And once it’s a tad warmer down there, I’ll start my experimental sewing.

Otis seems to prefer indoors to outdoors, so I guess he’s smarter than I gave him credit for! I expect he’ll hang with me downstairs - he likes company. FCD has taken the assorted fiberglass pieces to the boat to fit-check them and if all is well, the crew will apply the non-skid, and that will end their deck work. We’ll have more to do come spring.

OK, no more goofing off here. I must descend!

back in the office today. some areas are nicely cleared, others piled up into huge snow walls. you can see a cleared sidewalk, but can’t find a way into it due to the wall.

due to the way they plowed the streets our shuttle bus can’t get into our building. we have to board across the street, which is not well cleared. ah well. it has been a while since there was this much snow. the city may have forgotten what to do.

we are at 17f, with bright sunshine.

“Rivets”? “Chai”?

A few years ago there was a recording going around of a radio announcer somewhere in the Dakotas (I think) commenting on the weather: “Do not go outside. You will freeze your ass off.”

Didn’t wake up until almost ten, so had to quickly feed the cats (whose normal breakfast time is 0900) before doing anything else. Currently 17 Ferrets (-8 Centipedes), wind chill 3 (-16), with an expected high of 23 (-5), There’s a definite shortage of Ferrets around here – single-digit counts tonight and the next three nights, going all the way down to 2 (-17) Friday night.

I wonder how Piper would deal with this heat wave…

Should probably pull the bins out of the snow and move them to the driveway this afternoon, while the sun is working its magic on the snow and softening the crust. Both bins this week, I think.

And another day of relative sloth begins…

I make these from time to time. Not too bad carb-wise and the recipe doesn’t make a gazillion of them. It’s too bad that he’s so opposed to a cane.

Tea?

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. RDOS activities on board for the day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

My “chai” is Hebrew, and not pronounced like the Russian “chai.”

I still don’t understand why I need a nickname to post in MMP.

BTW, what does MMP stand for?
