MMP: It's a FairyChatMom Birthday with Buttermilk Biscuits!

Thank you all so much for well wishes and cyber-singing. You’re all very sweet!

My office mates just brought me flowers and mylar balloons. The people I work with ROCK!

Today is dragging ass, although I’ve been busy. The problem is, that although I’ve been “busy”; I’ve been looking at spreadsheets, tables, etc and trying to understand them and the formulations based on the fields. They’re not done the way I would have done them, so I need to sort them out in my head. It kinda makes the day go slow.

I’m going to have my after lunch ciggie now.

First, YAAAAYAYAYAYAY FOR THE TATERS! Congrats and a half. And of course may there be many more happy years.

Well, I was counting on a wormhole, but it seems the currents of spacetime are being particularly obstreperous today. I demand extensive photographic coverage of the chocolate there tonight, so’s I can drool over it. Oh, and it is now my mission to oogie you out something fierce. One of these days, swampy, one of these days …

Lissla: Eat them. I tried using them do create cold fusion … that didn’t end well. Trust me on this one. Eating is the way to go.

My kid’s apartment is just off University - I know how to get there, and that’s all I know about Orlando. Email shall fly forthwith, or when I get around to it…

'member how I said we were going to the Eastern Shore today? Well, we didn’t. We had just left the house, hadn’t even gone a mile, when FCD’s phone rang. It was his boss. Someone didn’t move some money from one account to the other so there were no funds in place to pay for whatever testing FCD was going there to do. Bummer. We turned right around and came home, where I threw together 2 lunches post haste, and we each went to work. I was just an hour late, so I used a credit hour.

Our cat cracks me up. She’s a bit of a temperature wuss, so when the furnace blower comes on, she plants herself beside the heater vent in whatever room she happens to be occupying. If she’d just get over her aversion to the dog, she’d discover that Bernie is a nice, furry, warm sleeping companion. Purely platonic, of course. None of this inter-species hanky-panky in my house! Them’s the rules!

Chicken for dinner tonight - I’ve got 2 chickie bresticles thawing in a bowl of water. Not sure how I’m going to prepare them - maybe a stir fry?? IF I feel like eating. My stomach has been kinda icky all day, which means it’s probably a good thing we didn’t make that 3.5 hour drive to Pocomoke City… And that’s as close to TMI as you’ll get from me. At least in this post.

And Happy Anniversary to the Taters!!!
<flinging confetti with wild and reckless abandon>

Well, unless you are using frying bacon as a euphemism, it’s not what I always have in mind.

sprinkled with sugar and served with sour cream or plain yogurt

Having a digital camera at hand can be dangerous. heh

Here’s my kitty at the vent. She cracks me up!

Happy Anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Taters!

I need help! And I know this is just the right place to come. One of my coworkers’ husbands (Why does that never come out right? One coworker with one husband; she doesn’t have multiple husbands!) had a heart scare this week. Not actually a heart attack, but enough to make them undertake some lifestyle changes. ANYway, I’m the official Resident Health Nut so she’s come to me for healthy recipes. Of course, I can’t come up with more than 3 off the top of my head. Any quick and easy and kid-friendly suggestions? She’s not a really experienced cook so it does need to be easy. Thanks!

Taxi, I haven’t a clue how to make healthy meals.

FCM, your new kitty is so darn pretty! Looks like she’s happy in her new home too.

I sure have had a bad case of the blahs this week. Blah. Blah. Blah.
I was hoping that would get it out of my system but it didn’t work. Blah.

Grilled or broiled salmon comes to mind…steamed veggies with lemon…salads…pasta and marinara…baked chicken…

Lissla - strawberries on a cheesecake, of course!

Aw man, now I’m hungry.

taxi78cab - low cal, low fat breakfast to go:

“scrambled” (in a non stick pan) eqq whites
low fat swiss cheese
on a whole wheat wrap

optional - throw a slice of tomato, or a bell pepper ring into it for a bit of snazz

EEEEEEEEW! Eggs. Yuck!

I mean… um… thanks. I’ll pass it on. I’m sure they don’t hate eggs as much as I do. :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy Anniversary to the Taters!!!.
BTW, the swelling is all gone now, but I have a vague sorta ache in my jaw. Hardly worth mentioning. I’m getting kinda paranoid about going to sleep now though.

Strawberries? We always either make strawberry shortcake or freezer jam outta them, sorry.

Healthy recipes? The only recipes I have committed to memory are definetely not heart healthy, but some of the Atkins and South Beach recipes are pretty good. (Some are pretty awful, too) I would suggest your coworker invest in an appropriate cook book. Sorry again.

So much for chicken for dinner. We went out for Chinese. Yay - no dishes to do!! So the chicken will be for tomorrow.

And on Saturday, when it’s supposed to be almost 60, we’re going to take down the rotting split rail fence around our front yard. I’ve hated it since we’ve been here, so it’ll be a relief to have it gone. Plus it’ll make it easier to clear away the dead and dying crap on the hill. Come spring. Not now. Too cold.

Oh, and FCD is going back on Weds for another shot, since the last one didn’t work at all. If this one doesn’t help, well, we shall see…

I was just in Cafe Society, reading a thread about Frey’s A Million Little Pieces and his stint on Oprah today. There was a link to a photo of him with chicken pox.

And dear God, now I can’t stop itching! GAH MAKE IT STOP I WILL GO INSANE.

Happy Anniversary, Taters and Mr. Taters!!!

taxi, I’m trying to think of a good, simple source of heart-healthy recipes… I’ll look for something and come back. Don’t know how many fruits and veggies your friend’s kids like, but one of the things that can help a lot is increasing the portion sizes of those (prepared simply - focus on herbs, spices, vinegars and juices for flavors instead of fats) and reducing portion sizes of meats and any higher-fat and -sodium sides.

Speaking of fruits: Lissla, how about a sorbet? I took a quick look at Google and found this. There’s a sorbet recipe and several others that sound like they could be made with frozen strawberries.

Oh and while I was there, taxi, I looked for heart-healthy cooking and found one of the sites I’d seen before. Several of the recipes have a Hispanic bent (Pozole, Chayotes stuffed with Cheese…), but there is a pretty OK variety. And now that I look at the list, it seems like there are lots of reasonable-looking sites.

Dinner was a variation on fried rice. I had leftover quinoa from the other night and decided to saute some veggies (asparagus tips, edamame and carrots) with it and egg. Added a little garlic and onion and topped it with a little bit of grated cheese. Quite good, actually. The rest is going to be a salad for tomorrow’s lunch. Had a grapefruit for dessert. And just a few chocolate chips with dried cherries and a couple of nuts. Couldn’t help it, the chocolate was screaming despite the cabinet door.

Kitty looks funny, FCM. She kind of looks like she’s having her back scritched.

Off to do stuff…

GT

That Stay Young at Heart site looks pretty good.

back from work and just cleaned up dinner. I’m tired! I will go for a walk soon; I need the exercise.
Not much going on over this way.

I know Rue hasn’t popped in, but there’s another conspicuous absence - Mika. Anyone know what’s up with her?

Today was (as one of my friends likes to say) a day. To tell you about today, I need to start with another day that was a day, namely, yesterday. Remember how I’m getting published? Well, it’s time to submit that paper to the boys at the naval lab so they can go over it with a fine tooth comb and make sure we’re not letting the terrorists win or something. Anyway, as of yesterday I thought we were submitting it today, so last night I was busting my ass trying to get the program suite to make a lookup table, that makes the calculations super fast. Only it wasn’t working. First one of the subroutines was misbehaving and refusing to properly transfer its output back to the main program. So I just put the subroutine code directly into the main program. Problem solved. But then another error cropped up, seemingly in the standard code for a standard mathematical function used in another subroutine, and this error I couldn’t pin down. So despondently I sent my professor an email telling him what happened, and I went to his office this afternoon. Turns out he didn’t meet with the guy from the navy lab today, we have until tomorrow to get this made. So he’s going to look over the code tonight, see if he can figure it out, and we’ll have some time tomorrow to work on it if need be.

In other news: I have homework to do, an application to Amsterdam to finish, and a URP (Undergrad. Research Program) form to fill out. This weekend an old friend of mine and her boyfriend are going to be in the area, so they’re coming to campus Saturday, we’re gonna get lunch and I’m going to show them around the campus, which is absolutely gorgeous right now with all the snow.

I was wondering the same thing earlier, but forgot to ask. Maybe taxi will know.

Isn’t coding fun? I’m really bad at it and am mercifully allowed to leave it to the experts, but it still cracks me up to see how you can mess with the doohickey on the left and have it gum up the whatsis on the right. (Yes, I’m easily amused.) Oh and how do you pronounce URP? Spell it out or just say it? It made me <snerk>. Good luck with all your work!

My friend and I keep trying to get back to walking at lunch. For a long time, we would eat for about 1/2 an hour and then walk for about 1/2 an hour. Our walking has been suffering for the last six months or so (maybe more, but we’ll pretend it’s less). Today we walked for almost 1/2 an hour. Yay!

I think I’ll go read for a while and then to beddie bye.

Lovely evening, all.
