Ellie, Threadspotting is a link on the SD front page that takes you to a hilarious or interesting thread. They always gets lots of views, from the gawkers I suppose. I always go in on the front page in order to read the column–then I get to the boards via the Spotted Thread. Since I’m such a user of this tool, I feel it is only right that I contribute. Plus, I have fun writing a little line to amuse Tuba, and sometimes she uses it on the front page, too. Ergo, whee.
I think there is no possible way to get on the road to North Carolina this afternoon. Not one iota has been packed, and there are presents still to wrap. Last night was spent loading songs onto the mp3 players we got the older children. The instructions, naturally, read as if they were written in Cantonese, trasnlated via Babblefish into Latin, and then into English by a chimp with a chisel and a stone tablet.
I made three pumpkin pies last night. I put bean soup in the crockpot to cook all night, and then I sliced one of my famous pork loin roasts. I now feel able to be a good guest as I will be bearing approximately my own body weight in food.
Woo! I’m 27 today! Yeah, ok so it’s not all that different than being 26, is it?
So as I consider the next 3 years, the remainder of my “late 20s” I’m trying to figure out what I should do to take full advantage of still being young. I need suggestions. What did you do or are you doing (if you’re around my age) that is memorable and enjoyable? If you’re older than I am, what do you look back on as being the fun parts of your misspent youth? I’ve had a serious shortage of wildness thus far in my life and think I should make up for it while I’m still young! Help! Please send ideas.
The last month of 26 into the first month of 27 were the absolute worst months of my life, for various reasons. I can tell you, though, that I’ve enjoyed 27-29 more than I’ve enjoyed being any age since 17. Have a great time.
My misspent youth was a combination of school, work, party. I tried to keep a good balance of all three just so my life would be well-rounded. When I look back to all the times I partied til three in the morning or just stayed up all night and then went to class or work, I wonder how I got to be the ripe old age of fifty-one. Some all night partying must be a good thing when one is younger is all I can figure out. So, taxi, since you’re going to New Yawk and all, I suggest you and KeithT investigate all night partyin’ as a way to misspend some youth.
The part for the grille on my ‘Stang is in. The grille had a missing part. Ok, a part fell off. Apparently it’s one of those little problems that ain’t my fault so they have to replace for free. WHEE! So, I’m takin’ it in Monday afternoon late (when I get back from seeing family) and they’ll fix it up Tuesday. Poor thing looks like it’s got a missing tooth. Also, just to throw in some more minutiae of my life, I’m getting a hair cut this afternoon. Gotta spiff up for family.
Serious advice, Taxi – travel if you can afford it. I wish more than anything that I’d done that while I was young. Now … kids, mortgage, etc. I probably will never get to Europe! <sob>
I dunno, see I did MOST of the wild and crazy things B.C. (before children). I had my first child when I was 26.
Hmm, I dunno. I just did the usual stuff, party all night and go straight to work, come home from work, party some more. My husband and I made love on a mountain, about fifty feet from the trail. Don’t worry there was tall grass, so people couldn’t see us, I think, I hope. But you see, all this, once again was B.C.
I guess I’m not the person to ask. I must be very boring.
That reminds me, taxi, you’ll have to let me know when you’re going to New York–I’m no City Expert, but I live close enough to come on in and say hi!
And I’m thinking about getting a haircut on Monday. This will be the first haircut I’ve paid someone for since the Horrible Soccer-Mom Incident of '04. I’m going to go in with a dictionary and make sure the hairdresser understands the explicit meaning of the word trim.
Sean, you flirt with everything that is female and breathes. And this is coming from someone who *loves * to flirt. How the heck am I supposed to know when you really mean it?
Assuming the strike gets over, we’ll be down there next Wednesday and Thursday. But we’re meeting up with one of my friends who’s got both days planned down to the second. So if you want to join us, come prepared for a running tour of various museums, Rockefeller Plaza, Central Park, and I can’t remember what else! Email me if you want and I can give you an outline of what we’re doing and you can let me know if you want to try to catch up with us somewhere/time.
Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone! The day started out with a bit of a parking fiasco (I’ve made a neighbor hate me, I’m sure) so I figure it can only go up from here.
Whoever said that we ought to stay out of Ashes’ neighborhood - don’t worry. As she’d probably tell you, she lives…a distance from the city. Won’t be hard to avoid. Though I hope the health fairy can find her to make her feel better!
Since everyone’s confessing their age, I’ll admit that I’m 32. Eh, whatever. I have nothing wise to offer.
Of course you don’t have to do any work today! It’s your birthday. Tell your boss I said it’s okay to slack. I’m sure he’ll agree!
So, Swampy, which pretty pot did you receive? Are you going to take a picture of it next to your Swampfest painting and post it? Pretty soon you’re going to have a regular MMP artifact collection going there.
I am SO hoping the boss give us 59 minutes today. I really want to get the rest of my shopping done, plus I have to take the kids to do their shopping. In addition, I need to make sure a certain Mr. Someone’s present is not where a certain Mr. Someone can find it.
I have one more hour at work. And then I escape and fly to CA. Thank god. Some idiots decided that the yesterday would be the perfect time to push out a software change. In doing so, they increased the volume of data my system received by 20%. And that was with the change going in at 10 am yesterday. Therefore, today’s data will be massive. They hopefully will be doing something to turn the change off. But I won’t know - because I am leaving at three. And I will be out of touch. And I just don’t care at this point. They’ve f*cked themselves - they have to deal with the consequences. I swear - it’s pure luck that I even caught that this was happening. They just turned it on, and let it go. Idiots.
I’m so ready to be gone. My plane better take off with no issues, or there will be chaos.
