MMP - The Quest Lives On

Previous trips to Ocala ran 13-14 hours. We shall see…

Is a resignation letter necessary then? We’re pretty informal here: they never gave me an actual offer letter when I started the job. Not that I want to get out of writing the letter - it seems pretty simple really. It just seems so funny to me to actually hand my boss a letter instead of or in addition to a conversation stating that I’m leaving.

I’m walking out of a FedGov Civil Service position, so mine’s necessary.

That clears things up. It used to be your reason for leaving was put on the back of a SF 52 (Request for Personnel Action). Now, everything is electronic.

Are you totally leaving civil service; or just moving from one fed gov slot to another? If I’m being too damn nosy, just tell me to butt out.

I’ve thought about transferring, but, the husband has his job here, is up a ways in ramp seniority, and it’s a lot to ask of him. I’d transfer if the pay raise was substantial in the extreme, but that’s not likely to happen.

I’m leaving altogether, for a position with a big name defense contractor on a contract with the Coast Guard. Yeah, I know, leaving NASA for that…

Leaving for the dark side, eh?

I’m kidding, best of luck to you. I’ve got 22 years invested in my career, and now I’m just too stubborn to leave civil service altogether. Hopefully, I can hang on for another 16 years and then I can retire.

taxi, I think the use of resignation letters probably varies by place of employment. I work for the state, and know that our employees are expected to submit letters (or at least e-mails) when they leave.

Don’t know if there’s any legal advantage down the line to have submitted one. You might want to put something in IMHO and see what people say…

I didn’t get nearly as much done at work today as I wanted to. Made it through all of my very recent e-mail, but got sidetracked in the afternoon by people who apparently don’t understand the meaning of “this is my last day at work for at least 2 weeks and I have stuff to get done.” Of course, the two main distractions really had to be addressed today regardless of my plans, but the first one could have taken less time. Grrrrrr.

I’m home now and need to do some laundry, think about packing, finish writing Christmas cards, take cards back in to work, and do some final clean-up at home (like make sure anything that will die in the fridge while I’m gone is disposed of). Oh and then actually pack. That would be good.

I had a panicked thought this morning that the bag I’m taking my laptop in might not be safe for it because it has a really magnetic clasp. Threw a question into GQ, but haven’t gotten anything really definitive back yet…

Glad you survived your last exam Rifty. Even though I’m not going home, I’ll be having a similar experience because at Far-Away Best Friend’s house we always get into a comfortable routine.

I’ll be off till about the 4th or 5th. I’m guessing I’ll post at least once more before I leave, but probably won’t get to the internet until I’m back in the States. Everyone have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Good Kwanzaa, Superior Solstice (what does one wish?) and whatever other holiday greeting is appropriate.

Great job rifty! I always did well with arithmetic, It’s actual math that gives me fits.

Bobbio, conga-rats on the job, and on getting a few kinks worked out of the shoulder.

welby, I second Tupug’s advice. Take care of yourself.

swampy, mmm cheese straws.

I say FCM’s’s trip will be 13.25 hours. Drive safe!

Ugh, what a time of it the last couple days. The weekend was busy, I finished shopping, and all of the baking, got about 50-60 dozen cookies. Still haven’t finished decorating the tree, but there are reasons!. Sun night the left side of my face blossomed in pain. Last time that happened, it was an ear infection, so I boogied to the Dr. right away yesterday. The ear is fine, I have abcessed teeth. Got a dentist appt. in 2 weeks, and I’m on the cancellation list to get in sooner if possible. :sigh: Dr. has me on augmentin for a week, so we’ll see if it helps.

Ooooh…I think I forgot last time. Don’t know how you manage so many cookies, Wallflower. I only made about 10 dozen and that was quite enough.

Hope you can get into the dentist sooner - I’m sure abcessed teeth are nothing to mess with. At least you’ve got something to treat them temporarily…

My first day of vacation. I sat around drinking coffee and watching TV (including the end of To Kill a Mockingbird) all morning. I decorated our little tabletop Charlie Brown Christmas tree. It’s very cute! I cleaned up the dishes from the night before. And I’m making beef stew from a recipe on The Food Network. The whole house smells incredible! I never make stew 'coz it takes so long, but since I was home all day - why not?

Since I slaved away so hard, I’m sitting here with drink in hand, playing on the computer!

Oh! I meant to say:

(I got a phonecall in the middle of my last post.)

  • congrats to Bobbo on the new job. I’ve always typed up a letter to quit a job, too.

  • I’m betting 14.50 hours for FCM.

  • Making cookies sucks. Unless they’re the cut off the log kind. I tried it last year, and I was sorely disappointed in my baking abilities. So I won’t do that again!

  • Good job, Rifty!

Dolores such slaving away to provide your family with a good wholesome meal of beef stew deserves a drink, I say.

Bobbio congrats on the new job. I was kinda nosy cause of the with great emotion part but I understand that. I was fourteen years at my last place before I came here and well, with that much time in, it was kinda emotional to leave. Course I’m glad I did it cause the job I have now is good and I have a nice house and there is this critter named ACBG in my life…

Speaking of the critter, he’ll be here in about half an hour. He had to work a little late. This is good cause it gave me time to make the cheese straws, which are all made now. There is a tupperware bowl full of 'em for him to take home on the kitchen counter plus a dozen of 'em on a plate waiting for consumption. I predict a very happy night for me.

Oops, I forgot. It will take 14.75 hours for FCM and FCD to make it to Ocala. It woulda only took 14, but FCM got this craving for a Stuckey’s Pecan Log in South Carolina so they had to stop. :stuck_out_tongue:

My plan is to make jambalaya with smoked sausage and chicken. The cheater’s kind with Zatarains. It’s easy, it’s filling, and there’ll be leftovers tomorrow.

I also need to put the pine bough garland thingy on my stair railing because I totally forgot it when I was decorating the rest of the house. Additionally, I need to put out our candy cane lights and wrap the brick pillar on my front porch in lights. Finally, I need to do laundry. I think that’s all I have to do when I get home. I HOPE that’s all I have to do when I get home, is more like it.

Swampy, how about you slide some those cheese straws through something in the PC for me and Mr. Taters? He LUUURVES snacks with cheese.

No baking for me. While growing up, I spent WEEKS before Christmas baking. I baked so many different kinds of cookies that I burned out on the whole baking thing. Believe me, it’s better if there aren’t any of those temptations lying around the house anyway.

The explanation of “with great emotion” is that all of the things making me second guess the move has to do with the people, the project, the (former) dream job, and the like. Those are all the side benefits to the position; but my actual job sucked because I’m not suited for it IMAO. The job is that of a chief, when I really want to be one of the indians.

The new position has me doing software maintenance on CG-run navigation equipment; a roll-up your sleeves and dig into the code and hardware until you find the problem type occupation. Beats the hell out of writing requirement documents nobody reads, schedules that are trashed weekly, and watching contractors do the stuff you wanted to do on your own.

um, ew.

The plan is to get up at 4 on Thurs and be on the road by 4:30. We’ll have the car pretty much packed Weds night - we’ll just have to toss in our toiletries, the dog, and us. We should get past Richmond before their rush hour - will we miss Jacksonville’s rush also? We shall see. If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to post that we arrived, with a total time, on Thurs evening.

If not, don’t panic - I’ll be back next week. Try not to miss me while I’m gone!

Welby’s hershey squits laugh at your pathetic Immodium. LAUGHS!

The doc tells me I probably got hold of something bad, and should be back to my usual twice a day self in no time.

The cookies were easy. I just plopped everything for the sugar cookies into the kitchen-aide, patted it into a log shape in plastic wrap, then stuck it into the fridge for a couple hours. While that was chillin out, I whipped up a double batch of tollhouse, except I used mini M&Ms instead of choc. chips. By the time those were baked and put away, I was able to slice and decorate the sugars for baking. The anise ones were made the same way, except those were iced after baking. Hubby[sup]tm[/sup] made the chow mein cookies on Sat. morning, and I made jam-gems, aka thumbprints, Sat afternoon. The dough for those just gets rolled into a ball and then smooshed down in the middle and filled with jam. There is no way I would have enough time to get it all done if I needed to roll and cut out shapes.

Oh, poor you! Hopefully, you’ll feel much better by tomorrow. After all, there can’t be that much more to er…get rid of.

As it turns out, I didn’t have to cook tonight; I’m just heating leftovers. It’s only me and the hubby because the kids are at our friend’s house babysitting their kids. After we eat, we’re going to play WoW.

The stew was excellent. Hubby came home at 6:45, downed a Beam and coke, a swallow of Nyquil and a bowl of stew. Asleep at 8:30 on the recliner.

Poor baby has a cold. And he’s not on vacation.

So I’m still drinking. Ordinarily I wouldn’t do this, but…

I’ll volunteer for MMP next Monday. I can’t pretty much guarantee it will be mundane…
