MMP – The Year In Review

Congrats to Taxi and Keith T!

That is wonderful news!

I just popped in to say that, it’s back to normal craziness at work and I have a lot to do. I’ll try and pop in later.

Gayest. Wedding. Ever. I love it.

Congrats Taxi & Keith!

So, the walkthrough on the Bell Tower (I’m so excited it gets bolded) is scheduled for 9:30 on January 12, with the closing at 11 and me scheduled to spend approximately 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. dancing in geekariffic glee around my temporarily-empty house. Look for an amusing anecdote about socks and hardwood floors when I get around to posting on the day.

I have an enormous list of things to do involving insurance, utilities, movers, and many many more trips to Target. It’s a damn good thing I wasn’t feeling good this morning … I’d never have made it through the day at work.

::more happy dance::

Woo-hoo! Congrats Taxi and Keith T!!!

Pretty kitty, **FCM[/]!

I’m back at work. This sucks. Why can’t I just win the lottery and stay home all the time? <whine>

Ok, enough of that.

What’s for dinner?

Yay, taxi and Keith! Woo-hoo! Congratulations! Damned if I’m making anything wedding-y for at least a year!

The wedding organizing was chaos, OTQ only had a few small nervous breakdowns, bridesmaids were on hand at all times to feed her chocolate and calm her down. It’'s over, and she’s married. Thank Heaven. And the dress was perfect and no one fainted or threw up.

Today I’m probably off downtown to go to random ethnic food stores with a co-worker.Fun.

Oh, FCM the kitty is just perfect!

Uh oh. Should I be worried, or excited?

This weekend was really great for me. On New Year’s Eve, I went to an actual gasp party, with actual gasp alcohol. Crazy, right? The friend of mine who invited me was the only person I knew there, and she had to leave at 11, so I got to make some new friends afterwards.

Congratulations to the future Mr. and Mrs. KeithT!

Love the cat, FCM, and I think your MMP is awesome!

The cake! The wedding cake! White with marzipan and butter cream frosting perhaps? The groom’s cake. Chocolate? Red Velvet in the shape of an armadillo? DJ or live band? Definitely an open bar. There’s just so much to do!

Do you all get the idea that if I could get married it’d cause me to have a nervous breakdown?

Actually I’d want to do it in the Summer out by the pool, have a keg and order in pizza. Now that’s a wedding reception!

taxi congrats to you and KeithT! How come he never sticks his head into the MMP for a hello?

And Bobbio, have you settled into your new job yet? Maybe we can get together for a lunch or after work beer. There are a few good places in Olde Towne Portsmouth I’m still allowed to go into.

Well I have to say that things are just starting out [sarcastics]fantastically[/sarcastics] in my neck of the woods. This happened just a mile or so from my house last night.

Dang Sean! I mean, those missionaries get on my nerves too, but I wouldn’t shoot 'em. I just don’t answer the front door. Nobody ever comes to my front door that knows me anyways. Friends know that if I am up to receiving company the garage door is up and they walk in there and come in through the kitchen. If the door is down the know da bear ain’t home or is not receiving company at this time. I hope the one that’s still alive pulls through.

That is indeed terrible!

Woo!!! Congratulations to taxi and keith!!

Your kitty is a cutie, FCM! Her coloring is like a wild cat of some sort.

FCM, she is indeed a pretty kitty. Have you named her yet? How about “Tawny”? Her coloring reminds of a regal female lioness. Or, how about Elusive Elsa, since she likes to hide so much? The Elsa part comes in because of the name of the lion in Born Free.

Sean, that is truly horrible.

Dolores, I’m with you on the whole staying home because I won the lottery thing. Why don’t you set that up for the both of us?

Bobbio, how’s the first day of the new job going? Do you like it so far? I know that it’s hard to really know until you’ve been there awhile.

Swampy, sweetie, if you were to get married, you wouldn’t have a breakdown, I’m afraid you’d have a MELTDOWN unless things went absolutely perfectly.

I need to finish my salad and pop on over to the Pit so I can read all about the Joan firing.

Why, Taters are you insinuating I would turn into Gayzilla?

I am all verklempt after reading about the firing of Joan by Maureen over in the Pit. It’s a must read for everybody.

'Cause he’s not one of the CoolKids. He’s just a CoolKid-in-law-to-be!

Anyway, I should fill everyone in on the rest of our vacation week. **KeithT **arrived Monday night (12/27). We spent a quiet Tuesday at my place. Wednesday was up at 4:45 to be at the airport to catch a bus to NYC at 6:30… which didn’t actually get to the airport until almost 7. Yup, bodes well, doesn’t it?

Good time in NYC. Met up with a friend of mine who acted as our tour guide (We’ve gotten him as far as the Straight Dope, but he doesn’t wander in here to the boards.). Went to the Forbes Gallery - cool and largely unknown place. Lunch at Grimaldi’s in Brooklyn for New York’s Best Pizza according to my friend. Walked back across the Brooklyn Bridge. Tried to go on a tour of Rockefeller Center, but they were all sold out. Went to the Museum of Television and Radio, which is another underrated place. Saw old Popeye episodes, some Edward R. Murrow interviews, and 2 '60s era Batman episodes. Thai for dinner and then a Peter Schickele show.

Then the real fun began… my friend’s father had picked up our bag in the morning so we wouldn’t have to carry it around all day. But that meant we had to go all the way to the far side of Queens - a walk, two trains, another mile-and-a-half walk, a tour of friend’s parents’ house - away from the theater. Then we had to drive back (well, friend drove, we rode) towards the city from friend’s parents’ house. All-in-all 2 1/2 hours from theater to motel. Yup, we were REAL happy after that. Lesson learned: stay in Manhattan next time.

Thursday we spent the day in the Museum of Natural History. Lunch from a street vendor for an authentic NY experience. Then friend left and **KeithT **and I wandered around looking for dinner and then went to catch the bus. Which was 45 minutes late!! AND after that the bus driver went to Wendy’s to get dinner before we left. And then he (the driver) spent about 1/2 the trip talking on his phone in Russian. Yeah… I don’t think we’re going to be taking the bus again. Overall a good time though.

Friday we mainly crashed at my place, although we did venture out long enough for KeithT to meet my coworkers - or at least those who were actually at work on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend. Saturday we met my parents at a museum for a Rodin exhibit. Then a really nice dinner at a great local Italian place.

And then a walk in the falling snow and **KeithT **proposed.

And then we spent Sunday worrying about telling our parents. Even though we both knew they’d be really excited and happy. Oh and **Anaamika **and her SO came over. And we went x-country skiing/snowshoeing and KeithT (on the snowshoes) went through some ice - what is a field in the summer had turned into a BIG puddle with ice on top and snow on top of that.

We finally told our parents Sunday night and, of course, they were thrilled. And now I’m finally back at work (yuck! I wanna have more vacation!) So that’s the whole long saga.

As for the wedding… well, neither of us want a nightmare wedding. So it will be us, our parents, his sister, and two friends each with dates. (Friends, not bridesmaids/groomsmen, because my friends are guys and his are girls.) The wedding itself will be formal - him in tux and me in a byuoootiful dress - but other than that everything will be casual. Our parents will probably each host a “getting to know KeithT/taxi” party in each of our home states for everyone who’s not at the wedding. That way no one has to travel, and it’ll be a lot more laid back and casual. And we’re really working hard not to frame it as a reception. We just want to see everyone, not have a second and third wedding!

And thanks everyone for the congratulations and wishes.

Perhaps not as bad as Gayzilla, but somewhat close, Swampy.

Actually, my husband and I got married in my in-laws’ house. We rented chairs, and a champagne fountain. We had the da judge come to the house to marry us. We had some food made up by delis, but most everyone brought a dish to the wedding. We had a wedding cake made up and we ordered flowers from the local florist. The husband rented a tux, my mother bought me a gown, and the whole wedding was very low key. We had a very large turnout and everyone had loads of fun.

I hope when my daughter meets “the one”, she decides to elope or do something low key. This would most definitely be her style. However, if she decides she wants something big, we’ll do our best to make it happen.

Whoa! Engagements are neither mundane or pointless!

Congrats anyway–this is so exciting!
Back from meetings at work and then the grocery store. The cupboard was bare, I tells ya–$250 later and I could weather a siege (not our Siege, but A siege…).

Must study again tonoc and after Wednesday, I have 5 days off to really drill in to this damned GRE.
Kitty is a cutems! I love kitties–I love to visit kitties and puppies, but not raise 'em.

I am so damn glad I stayed home from work today. I am the organizational queen. So far today, I have arranged for the transfer and/or cancellation of all my current utilities, gotten the movers hired and paid my deposit, hired a cleaning service to come in and scour the old place once it’s empty (and paid my deposit), filled out my postal service change of address form, and measured all my furniture. All from the comfort of my couch. Well, not the measuring thing–I had to get up for that. Wish I had one of those laser things, but when I went to Target last night I bought cookware (stainless steel and will look splendiferous hanging from my soon-to-be pot rack), towels (which will contrast nicely if I remembered the wrong wall color in the bathroom anyway), and a coffeemaker that might actually clean the entire kitchen if I asked it to. I decided not to get the laser measurey thing because I had already spent enough money and wanted to get myself a DVD.

Still on the list for today is to call my insurance agent about homeowners’ policies, call the cable company for the area I’m moving to and set up service, and finish cleaning out my bedroom closet. The enormous piles of garbage that are accumulating in the dining room will have to wait–it was snowing before, and though I don’t know if it’s still snowing, I sure as hell ain’t going outside.

And my special plan for tonight … spackling.

My baby is here! Yay!

We did the aquarium, then went to my ceramics school to pick up my last 4 pieces. Then we were going to stop at the Lindt store, but it’s gone! Rats! On the way home, we ran into WalMart to get me socks and to get some mouthwash for FCD, and we happened to find some Lavoris for him! YAY! Now we’re home and I’m thinking about making dinner. Cat’s still under the bed. Sweetie’s on his way home after seeing a second orthopedist.

My family will be together, soon! YAAAAAAY!!

OH! I forgot to comment on the kitty pix! Very cute! I love kitties!

Congrats, taxi and keith! Your wedding plans sound tres sensible. Mr. Anachi and I eloped to the Holiday Inn in Cocoa Beach and the Head of Housekeeping married us while Red October played on the TV in our room. It’s now our favorite “romantic” movie.

That did it. I had seen MMP around and didn’t know what the heck it was… thinking ‘Mindless {something} Post’, but couldn’t ever come up with a good middle word. I tried searching for ‘MMP’ here, but that was too short a phrase for the search engine.

I even tried googling it - which didn’t come up with anything. Well, actually it did, but I figured that MMP in this case wasn’t standing for ‘Mixed Member Proportional’ or ‘Millenium Mathematics Project’ or ‘Marian Movement of Priests’.

But then Liquidbud let the secret of the secret society slip, and saw that it meant ‘Monday Morning Post’. At least I hope it does.

I just couldn’t bring myself to ask, and I was ready to scour the posts over the past few months if necessary - but I wasn’t going to give up. I was going to figure it out on my own.

Thanks Liquidbud!

Congrats to you two! What a great way to start off the new year.

My 2006 review:
People are crazy. Folks were lining Colorado Blvd early Sunday morning to guarantee their spots for Monday’s Rose Bowl parade. It started raining at about 3pm on Sunday, and didn’t stop until after the parade. That’s almost 16 hours of sitting in the rain just to see a parade. And as much as I usually make fun of California ‘weather,’ that was a cold, miserable, heavy, rain. I can’t imagine sitting out in that over-night. I stayed home and watched the rain out my window, then turned my head and watched the very same rain falling on the parade on tv.

That, like, totally blew my mind.

Have a good 2006, everybody.
