MMP – The Year In Review

Wow. Thanks, Ellen. I’ll have nightmares.

Beautiful pottery as always, FCM. I particulary like the inkwell and the sugar bowl.

Draelin, could you lend me some of your hardworkingness? I need it. Today I should go to the bank, do laundry, put laundry away, do all the dishes, clean the kitchen, cook a pot roast, clean the bathroom, sweep, vacuum, and mop the whole apartment. Then I should tidy and dust. I don’t think anything has been properly clean since Dec. 12th, which was when the bride arrived.

I don’t feel like doing any of it.

Yesterday I went downtown with a co-worker and a friend of hers and we went all through Chinatown and now I have tons of beautiful filled buns (shut up) with curry beef and bbq pork and garlic. I also bought some ginger tea and some almond tofu. I reaffirm that I am not safe in grocery stores.

I also spontaneously bought a dress which I wore last night. Mr. Lissar and I finally celebrated our thrid wedding anniversary. Only a week late.

Unfortunately, I used most of it up with the spackling.

Uh, oh, I better go check out the 14 rolls of wrapping paper that hubby bought. For 10 cents each!

Beautiful pottery, FCM. Can I be on the list if you ever want to just give stuff away?

My blood sugar was high, so I took a walk around my (work) building. Sure is a pretty day here! High of 78 degrees with a nice breeze. This global warming sure is weird… We’re supposed to get a cool front tonight, and they predict a hig of all of 62 on Friday. Brrr!!!

Pretty pottery FCM.

So, did you and FCD ever come up with a name for your pretty kitty?

Today is my daughter’s sixteenth birthday. I can hardly believe it. It feels almost like yesterday since I brought home a tiny five pound, four ounce baby from the hospital! She didn’t want anything real special for today. All she wants is cheesecake (New Yawk style) for a birthday cake and to go to Red Robin. Unbelievable! We are, of course, complying with her request.

Well, I must go to a meeting now. I don’t like meetings…

Something similar happened to me once. I was stationed onboard the USS Eisenhower. We took the 10th Mountain Battalion down to Haiti back in, what, 1995? Anyway, I was watching CNN on satellite TV, and watched the ship drop anchor from a viewpoint on a hill on the island as I heard the anchor chains making their Og-awful racket. Very surreal.

I used to take the tunnel from P-town to Norfolk when I lived over there, but I wouldn’t recommend taking it from VB to Portsmouth. You should use the Downtown Tunnel for that. To use the Mid-town, you have to go through Norfolk over to Ghent, then turn left (actually, it’s a right-hand cloverleaf thingy, but you get my drift.) You’ll figure out a quick way to get from one place to the other here soon enough.

ems You’re back! Yeah! Hope you’ve recovered enough to regale us with the details of your trip.

I didn’t get a chance to read last week’s MMP so I may have missed this, but how did the wedding go and what did you end up wearing?

I just put **KeithT **on a plane. So I’m alone. And don’t get to see him again until the last weekend in January. :frowning: :frowning:

I’m feeling easily-annoyed and a little panicky today. I called the cable company for the new house, and they say I can’t make an appointment to hook up the cable until the old owners disconnect theirs. That’s fine for right now, but come January 18, if I have no cable and can’t watch Lost, we’re going to have a serious problem. PSE&G sent me an email saying they transferred my power service as of January 3, rather than January 13, which is what I asked for. If there are no lights in my house when I get home tonight, I’m going to be muy angrio. That’s Spanish. They also don’t do the power in the new town, so I’m going to have to call two other providers, who will probably tell me they can’t do anything until the erstwhile occupants call to cancel their service.

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to do things early, because nobody else does. I have this enormous fear that they’re suddenly going to tell me they’re not moving out until the weekend or something.

But I also think the vague annoyed/panicky thing might be leftover from the dream I had last night, in which I had about half an hour to find a prom dress. I don’t know why the prom was so important to me–it certainly wasn’t the first time around–but I woke up this morning completely freaking out because I was going to miss the prom.

I’m sure there’s some interesting interpretation of this.

Draelin, you’re in the midst of a huge change in your life. It’s quite understandable that you’re super stressed out right now.

I hope you have power tonight. I really do. Otherwise, everything else I’m sure will work out eventually. Maybe not RIGHT NOW WHEN YOU WANT IT, but somehow it’ll happen.

We were watching a rerun of Home Improvement last night - the episode about a poker party that falls apart - and Jill grabbed a stogie, sat down at the table, and told Tim to call her “Murray” Guess what the cat was called all night last night??

I’m just really wishing I knew who my prom date was supposed to be. Whoever it was, I’m sure he would have been better than the guy I went with in high school.

It’s occurred to me that if PSE&G completely fubared the power thing, the electricity should still be ON, because they should have just transferred it back to the building management. But if it isn’t, hooboy, are they getting an angry phone call.

At least you went to the prom!
:: sobs ::
[sub]Okay, so at 32 I’m still not quite over it, I guess.[/sub]

Don’t fret scout, I didn’t go to the prom either. I had a couple of guys ask me, but I nicely turned them down. Wasn’t my thing, and I don’t feel like I missed anything anyway.

So the kitty’s name is Murray, huh? I have to admit this is an original name for a girl cat. It’s certainly better than Mr. Peepers , which is my cat’s name. Interestingly enough, his name came from a movie. Do you remember the Michael Douglas/Robert Duvall movie where Michael just loses it and goes on a rampage in L.A? Robert Duvall plays a cop who is supposed to retire on that day and has an extremely neurotic wife who calls him every five minutes. She goes on and on about her cat, who was named, say it with me, Mr. Peepers. Mr. Taters chose the name.

Draelin, I sincerely hope everything turns out alright. It would suck to be without power.

Speaking of weird dreams, I had an extremely weird dream where I was driving my Explorer down this road, which is a road that is by my house, but wasn’t. Do you know what I mean? Anyway, I was driving along and went sailing over a hill and I remember thinking, "Oh, I always land on all four wheels, but I need to remember to slow down BEFORE I crest the hill. Anyway, the same time I’m thinking this, my rig starts to flip over and I roll over twice. All I could think was, “Oh man, Larry is going to be sooooo pissed”. Then all of a sudden my vehicle was upright, but it was in water, like in a marina and it was sinking. I was trying to get it towed, but I couldn’t get anyone to listen to me. I kept thinking that if I got it towed home, nobody would be the wiser. Then all of a sudden I was at a house, that seemed familiar, but I don’t remember ever being there in real life. I kept trying to get someone to take me to the “marina” so I could get my rig towed, but someone faceless told me the “marina” was gone because a big wave had wiped it out. I was told everything there was gone. I distinctly remember feeling very sick and very cold at the same time. Then…I woke up. What a WEIRD dream.

I better wrap the daughter’s birthday presents now.

Have you people been eating cold pizza before going to bed? All these weird dreams, GEEZ!

I just ate the last of mom’s fried apple pies. I’m sad.

Drae all utilitiy companies are stoopid. They have no idea what they are doing. I have fought with power and cable companies everytime I have moved. They don’t grasp the idea of one person moving out and another moving in. It’ll all work out fine in the end. I promise.

Mr. Lissar worked for a power company for a while, and spent all his time angry at the stupid fricking company and feeling sorry for all the poor people calling to say that they hadn’t had power in three weeks and their children were dying of cold.

The wedding pics are currently uploading and should be done in a few minutes. When they’ve finished I’ll link to relevant photos. I wore the two-piece outfit (strapless corsety thing and taffeta skirt) hastily stiched together around the hips. The dress turned out perfectly, and I didn’t have to kill my friend.

I have just caramelized a lot of garlic and finished it with balsamic vinegar, which sounds terribly posh until you know that I had a huge bag of skinned garlic cloves in the freezer, and was worried they’d get freezerburn, so I used them. They weren’t doing perfectly so I threw some vinegar and extra butter in. I’m not sure what to do with the resulting mush. The garlic is making my eyes sting.

Also have a pot roast that refuses to soften up. Was outside round the wrong cut to use or something? It’s been on for four hours.

The foccacia and pizza bread turned out nicely.

Yes, it is cooking day. And the kitchen is clean and reorganized, and I have finished the laundry and swept. Go me!

What exactly are lil’ smokies? I’m guessing no relation to lil’ Kim, otherwise I got nuthin’.

Gaaaahhhh! You have no idea how correct you are missy! Have you seen most fifteen year old boys? Absolute trainwrecks, I’m tellin’ ya. Plus they’re students so they go on my permanently-mannequin-smooth list. Your predictive powers are a-may-zing Puggy.

Okay swampy, the thrill of living in sin is totally understandable, but you’re missing the good part of a house shuffle. What you do is buy a new big house and then you get to re-decorate! You are passing up the chance to decorate. Mr. Swampington, I’m afraid I’ll have to see your credentials.

So, is there a name for tall coffee mugs that bow out then in like a barrell, then out again for the part where you put your lips? I need a few of those for my mommy’s birthday. Which reminds me! My cousin had her baby yesterday and I was misinformed about her being a he, but not about the weight darnit. Just barely four and a half pounds-- the good news is she didn’t have to be put in an incubator. My fingers are crossed that that info is correct this time.

My power company is eeeevil in so many ways. We hosted two of our neighbors for a week when the company left them without power (in 120 degree weather to boot). The application procedure for low income families is an embarrassment and not even the worst trick they pull. I’m going to go turn off a bunch of lights, just to spite them.

Hey! Why is the page-bottom advertisement for humor writing classes? Humph!

This is Other Quasi-Daughter and her husband. Bloody posed photos. Slightly blurry photo where you can kind of see the dress. Bridesmaids. I seem to be staring at my feet. More bridemsaids. More bloody bridesmaids. Me and Mr. Lissar. Yes, I am that short. Look, he’s 6"3!
Hah! I found a semi-decent pic of the dress! Another semi-decent pic! Wow!

Before it was pressed and altered. This girl thinks she’s ugly and fat. How frustrating.

Tonight, after dinner, I had me a piece of pie for dessert. I also slapped a big wad of Cool Whip on it, because I’m special that way. Anyway, it was cherry pie. Which got me a-thinking…
Hey Ellen, did you get your squirt can of whipped cream for Christmas this year?
Other than that, I am tired.

I’m back!!! I’m tired and feel like I’ve flown through several world capitals. Paris and New York were both fascinating airports. And not in a good way.

I’ve speed read the MMP and wanted to just pop in and say hi. Happy New Year!

Congratulations, taxi and KeithT!

Cool kitty, FCM.

Also, I vote that Lissla sew taxi’s dress. And I believe that the wedding should occur in the MMP.

I predict that the MMP will contain many opinions in the coming year.

Ready for bed. Maybe I can get myself into a normal schedule…

GT

Lil’ Smokies are these little smokey sausage things that are little and cute and smokey. Since they’re little and cute you can eat more of them. I’m not overly crazy about sausage but those things are great.
Well, I have a earache tonight. I had a clicking in my ear a couple days ago but it stopped, it started again tonight so I put some ear drops in it thinking it was just wax but it hurt like heck. It felt like it was running all the way down my eustachian (sp?) tube and burning all the way. Now my ear hurts a lot. I hope it stops hurting soon.
