Yesterday GQ was invaded by an Infrapontian (i.e., person who lives beneath a bridge). At least two new threads were created and two existing threads were hijacked to vent this individual’s disdain for, apparently, persons who package a variety of sticky chocolate confection.
I reported them. Within a half hour MEBuckner had thoroughly fumigated the forum with a new can of Troll-Be-Gone ™.
I doubt my experience is unusual. Probably a lot of such occurrences go unnoticed by the majority of Dopers.
And having encountered some less-than-objective self-styled moderators elsewhere than this board, I become more and more impressed with the high standard to which the staff here holds itself.
I’m sure they occasionally screw up – and at least twice I’ve seen them publicly apologize for such screw-ups. But they’re paragons of permissive objectivity compared to a lot of people who try to take on the job. And they deserve our thanks for it.

I noticed this very same troll in MPSIMS and I was also impressed by the speed of the Mods. Thank you mods for helping to keeps this board as intelligent as it should be.
Yes, I often remark about the exemplary (and usually thankless) job the moderators perform. Their tireless work ensures that the SDMB maintains its lofty standards of excellence.
And that’s a lovely dress you are wearing Mrs Cleaver.

I’d always appreciated the mods’ fairness, their dedication, and most of all their willingness to put up with all us idiots for free. Then I became for a time the sole mod on a (much smaller) board, and found out what an insane hassle it REALLY is.

Seriously, I remember one horrid day when someone posted the same thing over and over and over again in MPSIMS, inviting people to come visit another board. So many new threads were posted that all the other threads were pushed off to the second page.
I reported it, went to rend my garment in the Pit, and Gaudere, wielding her Mass Prune sword, made it go away so quickly most of the poeple who posted in my Pit thread were “What are you talking about?”
They do a wonderful job, and it is not thankless. Thanks for keeping the playroom clean and the monsters out.
