The people causing the derailment not the people posting on topic should be modded. There was even clear cut insults in that thread which were ignored. It’s silly that a poster posting on topic is responsible for lies that subsequent dishonesty.
I’ve had a bunch of people derail this thread with nitpickery and nonsense. I’m not reporting each one for trolling or jerkishness. I’m making the assumption that the mods read the threads they mod or participate in.
I mean the sanction as it currently stands is so small and restricted that it doesn’t really make a practical difference. I think it’s unfair and I think it rewards anti-social behavior. Anyways, I’ve said all that I think i need to. Probably at least 5 times.
I think the solution is to create conservative bots that respond to octo’s posts the way he wants to read them. Create an “instance” board, like the way WoW creates adventures that outsiders can’t interfere with. The instance board loads only for octo and generates his bots based on topic.
So, when he posts anything about “misogyny” for instance, the bots respond with “Yeah, those damn broads,” “Things were better back in the old days when women were barefoot and pregnant,” and “Why do they wait so long to report rape?”
OK, let’s stick to the topic. You were modded appropriately. In a thread about misogyny, you tried to divert the thread to misandry. You could have started a new threat on misandry, but you didn’t. Mr. Dibble has explained this to you in very simple terms. Instead of saying, “OK, whatever, next time I’ll start another thread,” you attack everyone else, as you inevitably do; point to imaginary liberal mobs, as you inevitably do, and insist it’s not you–it’s never you. I could almost write your posts for you, you’ve done this so often.
I suspect you’ll still be saying all those things if you get banned.
If changes to rules or policies or unspoken rules are being discussed why start a new thread with every permutation if a general rule can encompass all permutations? The principles are the same regardless if subset a is more oppressed then subset b. Why not work to eliminate as much oppression as possible, especially if the cost to do so is to change one or two words in a new rule? Whatever, if mod fiat says reality is x and can act accordingly who am I to argue?
I guess you think everyone is dumb except you. Pushing for general rules and problems is a distinct way to avoid dealing with a specific issue. You’re not the first to try it nor particularly innovative in technique.
Person A: “Hey, how do we deal with this ant problem in the break room?”
Person B (who leaves always leaves the table dirty): “Maybe we should also discuss the all the moths in the attic. A general rule about insects seems the more proper course”
Stupid Manager who falls for it: “OK, I guess the only fair solution is wrapping the building in mosquito netting”
No, I don’t think people are dumb. I think some people have an agenda. Every time that’s brought up it’s shut down even though it’s clear as day.
I also don’t think a general solution that literally includes, as an example, the adjective “all” vs a different adjective is any hindrance. I’m against affirmative action based on race. Is that racist? I don’t think so. I don’t think bigotry fixes bigotry.
Listen, I don’t honestly care about all these nitpicky details in this thread. What I do care about is being held responsible for dishonest portrayals of my on topic post, being insulted for those portrayals, then ultimately being noted. Then my challenging the justification of the note (while following the instructions of the note) leading me to a topic ban.
Then when I, to avoid derailing my own thread (this thread here), open a thread to discuss the topic ban it gets derailed by the same crew and locked. I guess that’s my fault too.
Of course people have an agenda. And you are smart, so you recognize everyone else’s agenda. Everyone else is dumb, because they think you have an agenda when fairness and tranquility is all you seek.
Of course. That’s why those notorious conservatives Bricker and Shodan no longer post here. We libs broke out the tar and feathers and rode 'em out of town on a rail.
It’s actually possible to be a conservative without being a troll. Amazing, right?
To be totally honest some of our worst trolls were/are very liberal. Seems like you can be a troll no matter your politcal alignments- as long as they are extreme.
I respect Bricker, even tho I disagree with him often.
And if Shodan would just stop with the* regards,* I’d say the same about him!
What’s most amazing is that we have conservatives who, outside of specific political threads, you would have no idea are conservative, because they don’t go on about it all the time.
Returning to this topic, because I’ve realized this is a big part of my impatience with the most argumentative posters here. Hey, you want people to take you, and your points, seriously? Make your case, maybe another post to clarify, then… SHUT. UP.
I know the octopodes among us will whine “But, I can’t stop! Someone disagreed with me. And a nasty libtard called me a name. I must respond to each and every insult with another paragraph of vitriol… or else the lefties will win and America will continue to slide towards uppity multi-culturalism!”
And these tiring pedants either get put on ignore, or those of us who are weary of this schtick just skim over their posts to try to get to others’ posts with some substance.
I’ve got an idea that works for anyone (anywhere on the political spectrum):
All you posters with your undies in a bundle… keep a text app open, furiously type out your screed against that poster who called you out (unfairly, of COURSE).
Then, don’t post it.
Save it for 24 hours, and see if you’re still angry enough that you need to derail a thread into suddenly being about how you’ve been wronged.
That is an ironic post. As the reason for my mod note was that I was allegedly derailing a topic and my complaint was that I was actually posting on topic. Now, I see a whole lot of derailment in here and not a whole lot of noting.
Digs posts that some people feel the need to respond to anything, even if it’s just to repeat the same thing again. And octopus immediately responds to repeat the same thing he’s said multiple times.
