Jumping Jesus, why in the hell does anyone bother acknowledging this person?
It’s virtually the same reading audience. Anyone telling themselves something else is living in fantasy land. I can understand not policing what posters do on other boards, but we’re talking about mods posting on other boards using their SDMB mod name - like I said earlier, that’s like off-duty police officers still wearing the uniform, and still being held to higher standards even though they’re off-duty. If active SDMB mods act badly towards active SDMB posters on other boards and pretend that it doesn’t come back over here, it seems like they are not acknowledging the reality of the situation, in my opinion.
For me, only because it* started making cryptic accusations against GFactor, who’s a long-time buddy of mine. I don’t think I’ve ever interacted with it before.
*I have no idea what gender it’s gender preference is, so “it” is the safest choice. It doesn’t even have to tell me it’s real gender, just what pronoun is it’s preference.
I don’t think anyone is telling themselves otherwise.
Our mod names are not badges and they don’t belong to the SDMB - they’re ours. Some of us use the same handles at other boards. This is communication in a text-based medium, so I wouldn’t attach any importance to the fact that he used the name Gfactor. If he’d used a different name and said “Hey, it’s Gfactor,” would it make any difference? I don’t think so. You still know who it is.
Gfactor didn’t act badly. He came out and addressed some things in a friendly, honest and approachable way and I think he deserves to be commended for that.
But…since it hasn’t happened*, why worry about it? Why stress out about it? Our only example is the GFactor one above which is hardly “acting badly”?
And when it comes down to it, what can the SDMB do? They have no ownership over a mod’s screen name, and there’s nothing to stop a mod from using a fake name on another board. Hell, none of us could be sure (until GFactor confirmed it) that the GFactor there actually was the GFactor here. Since it can’t be stopped, why make unenforceable rules? Finally, the mods have a tough enough job. How many do you think would put up with being told how/where they can post outside the SDMB?
*With the mod’s name attached. I’d bet money that at least some mods have posted on the Snackpit over the years.
Reveal your gender, and maybe I’ll tell you.
But mostly because, despite getting just as mad over (some of) the same things you do, I’ve managed not to be banned from the Pit. I’ve managed not to ever have a mod note or warning directed at me. Heck, I’ve never even leveled a personal insult outside the Pit. I am in much less danger than you are of being banned.
I’m actually offering my advice out of altruism, as it wouldn’t bother me if you were banned, as your presence seems to create a level of hostility on this board that I don’t like.
In fact, I’d like Gfactor to convert your temporary ban from the Pit to a permanent ban from any mini-rants thread. With the level of anger you have displayed here, I don’t trust you not to take it out on everyone in the mini-rants thread. But it would probably be better to at least give you a chance to be a mature adult about it, and confine your disgust into the appropriate thread (the one Gfactor closed).
I don’t. I vehemently disagree. The rules around here are ridiculously over-restrictive enough without trying to regulate peoples’ behavior elsewhere on the internet. Frankly, if the dialogue between posters and mods were allowed to be a lot more rough-and-tumble, this place would be a lot more fun, and we’d have a lot fewer idiots clogging up our tubes.
And as a preemptive answer, I’m just this guy, you know?
I agree.
Some people really need to just stay off the internet. Unfortunately, many of them post here on the SDMB.
From posts she made a long time ago, she is a housewife who does not hold employment, and takes her username from the community in which she lives with her husband. Or perhaps that persona has no base in reality.
S/he has credibility?
But you just did, in your last post in this thread.
My bad; I was not clear. I was talking about a hypothetical, if a mod was trash-talking Dopers on other boards, not that GFactor had already done that.
Those are all personal insults. Why are you posting them here?
I was saying the reading audiences on the two boards are similar.
I don’t think this is something the mods are going to create our own policy for. But I understand that people want to know we apply the rules fairly, and that taking shots at someone on another board would contradict that. I think the whole staff understands that.
None of them are personal insults. They are discussions of her behavior, which are very much in bounds and which are relevant to this thread. Please don’t junior-mod.
So why was GFactor taking shots at me on another message board?
Because he was asked a question and answered honestly? That would be my guess.
Because you are eminently pot-shot-able?
Apparently, no.
I don’t see it as a shot at you. And you already knew that he disagreed that “man hands” was hate speech or otherwise against the rules.
How is what he said a shot? Is any mention of your name a shot? Are you like The Candyman where if your name is mentioned, you must file an official complaint?
Let’s see:

And…are you stalking GFactor? How the hell did you even know he posted there?
