Well, as far as I can tell, a mod can do whatever the hell he wants on another board, as that is outside this board’s jurisdition. If you have a problem, bring it up on the board in question. If you’ve already done so, then you’ve exhausted your options.
It’s unfortunate, but you’ve developed a level of notoriety around here. A lot of people actively dislike you. Unless you are trying to get banned, I think it would do you good to try and calm down.
I’m sorry that you feel it unfair, but if you rub a bunch of people the wrong way, they can get tired of it, and you’ll reap the consequences. That’s just how things work in the real world.
My name is statsman1982. I’m a doctoral student living in West Texas.
Now that I’ve told you who I am (because that matters to you for some reason), maybe you’ll take *this *bit of advice: Replies like the one I quoted above don’t exactly endear you to anyone. If you were to lay off the invective perhaps your objections would be taken more seriously.
[Mod Hat]This (and comments like it) are not appropriate in ATMB.[/Mod Hat]
I disagree.
Does anyone have a problem with that? As I see it, people take issue with something else: the way you address other posters, and your requests that the mods hand out more warnings and enforce the rules (as you see them) in a stricter manner.
The Giraffe Board is not a snark board, and the comment is not snark on you. He said he found the situation funny. Posts are everybody’s business in that everybody can see them. Our emails, chats, and so on, are not, even if they get mentioned or ferred to on a board. It sounds like you’re implying you have a right to subpoena the discussion and get a transcript. What can I say? You don’t. We’re not a court or a lawmaking body, we’re a group of volunteers on a message board.
Yes, Gfactor clearly didn’t start that thread to snark on anyone. I thought he handled the questions with aplomb, certainly nothing which would cast him or the moderators of this board in a bad light. I spend a lot of time laughing at posts in the Pit from posters like Boyo Jim and I assume he does too, that’s why I asked the question. No snark was expected and none was delivered.
Amidst all the gnashing of teeth and beating of breasts, there was an interesting question in there that still hasn’t been answered - what is the position of this board on mods from this board snarking on posters from this board on a different board (using their mod name from this board)?
The post isn’t snark. But leaving that aside, we don’t police what SDMB posters do on other boards. I don’t remember the mods as a group ever discussing what we can or can’t say on other boards - and I’m not sure why we would need any kind of policy on that. Gfactor is speaking for himself to a different reading audience. If he did something and said it was on behalf of the board maybe there would be an issue.
My ISP is Earthlink. It’s the town that used to appear on my Earthlink bills.
e.g. http://kb.earthlink.net/case.asp?article=28802
Remit To:
Earthlink, Inc.
P.O. Box 6452
Carol Stream, IL 60197-6452
This has nothing to do with what GRactor did or did not do and the propriety thereof. And, I hasen to add, it has only the slightest of tangential reference to Carol Stream the SDMB member.
As explained on the town’s website, the town of Carol Stream, IL, is one of only a few, perhaps the only, towns to bear the full name of a living person. Ms. Carol Stream was at the time the town was first laid out the teenage daughter of the developer, a Mr. Stream, who was involved in a major automobile accident and lay comatose for quite a long time. The town was named after her and she was told about it while she was in coma in an effort to bring her out of it. Ms. Stream the eponym lives in Arizona, and reportedly never fully recovered from the accident, but occasionally visits her namesake town for community celebrations. The town of Carol Stream is of course a Chicago suburb, as has been mentioned.
While I have no certain knowledge, I presume from Carol Steam the poster’s stated location (IL) that she adopted the town’s name as her username, and is not the actual Ms. Carol Stream for whom the town was named, who now lives in Arizona.
I only went into this because of the convergence of “Carol Stream” as 1. a living person’s real name, 2. the name of a town named after her, and 3. the username of a board member, presumably referencing the town – and the potential for confusion that could result.
