I was wondering how many others out there Moderated one board or more, and what your experiences are like.
Me, I moderate two boards:
Darwin Talk-A message board that is supposed to debate Evolution v. Creationism…but no one ever visits there…
I basically asked for the position and I got it.
And I also moderate Vampires-A message board about vampires…I know many of you might be wondering exactly HOW I of all people came to moderate that message board…Well that’s a long story; involving my interest in people who believe wierd things. Of course I’m one of a very limited number of people on the MB that is actually a skeptic and has more of an interest in mythology/religion then in vampires, but I digress…
In any event, I was actually asked to mod. this board, primarily (I’m assuming) because I was skeptical and gave good arguments verses the legions of people who did not.
In any event, I find the job of moderation to be a bit stressful at times, a bit fun at times, and overall it’s taught me to be more tolerant of people…at least in certain instances…
So how about the teeming millions? We got any mods out there (SDMB mods can answer)? What made you become a mod, do you like being a mod, what boards do you mod, yada yada…?
Do livejournal community mods count? Because having been one for a short while, I can safely say it’s fun, and a nice way to meet new folks. Although, I do know all the people in the community very well, and they know me. I’m co-mod, actually - I know the other mod IRL, she offered me the privilege and I accepted. And I made the layout pretty. That’s me done.

I review submitted photos looking for fakes, offensive photos, contact information, etc. Every photo has to be approved before it appears on the main site. Some still get by because of the sheer volume of submissions, though. I often surf the site looking for bad photos that slip through, and submit them to a queue where they are reviewed again.
There is also a private mod forum where we all sit around and giggle at some of the rejects.
Yeah, but we get pictures, and there is no forum for people critical of our actions.
Too bad, because I would be in the lead by a long shot.
It kills me how stupid some people think we are. When you submit a picture and profile to Hot Or Not, it clearly lists the guidelines for submission. One of those guidelines is “NO CONTACT INFORMATION”. No one should be able to look at your pic or profile and be able to contact you. I see stuff come through like
Wow. Takes a real freaking genius to sniff that clever bastard out.
