Ahem. We do not “bite” one another in General Questions. Please direct personal insults to the Pit.
Now, to your (slightly) more substantive objections.
All but the Simpsons thread are in fact factual inquiries. I happen to like the horse question a lot, and I’m curious to learn if we have a vet to back up the opinions of the horse-racing people. The other two aren’t exactly “help me understand quantum physics,” but they are appropriate to this forum. The Simpsons question might make the trip to MPSIMS tomorrow, when I have more time (moving threads takes time and I believe that doing it slows the board while it is happening). That said, the Simpsons question at least had the decency to ask something which could not be answered by watching the friggin show.
And here’s the really important part: That was the second time this very month that you posted that question. It’s kind of insulting to the membership of this message board that you’d ignore the answers already given to you. And it was a colossally stupid question.
To In My Humble Opinion:
Paintball Guns
Sex with my wife
Job Interview Riddle
More to come today; I’ve had a busy one, but I’ll clean it up for ya!
How do you decide which threads to send to IMHO and which to MPSIMS?
slythe said “Try to think of this new forum as The Not-So-Great Debates.”
However, CKDextHavn said, "I thought the idea was sort of separating “Mundane Pointless stuff I must share” from “Mundane Pointless stuff on which I want to express my (and hear your) opinion.”
Dissention in the ranks, manhattan? My theory is that it will consist of whatever threads the mods most want to wash their hands of without having to think about where they really belong. Tell me if I’m wrong.
Well, the new place is still finding its voice. I don’t see any real conflict between the descriptions given by slythe and Dex. The idea is that IMHO will be for “polling” type questions. That poll can run the gamut from “What computer should I buy?” to “What’s the best chocolate?” to “Who’s your favorite poster” to, as above, “What do you think about having ways to make a buck?” If in the course of collecting opinions there occurs a little good-natured jousting, so much the better. Trust me, “Apple v. Wintel” debates are a thing of the past in GQ. Previously, I wasn’t really comfortable sending them to GD but they really weren’t GQ material either. Now there’s a home for such things. (As an aside, some of them probably belonged in the Pit. You’d think some of these guys owned the operating systems or something.)
Over time, as more people start topics there and as slythe does his thing, we’ll get a better idea of what goes where. As to using the new forum to “wash one’s hands” of a topic: No way. Just think of the crap slythe can send back!
And with that, I’m going to lock this thread. I want to keep these “moved thread” threads to one page. When I open another thread, I’ll link to this one (actually, I probably won’t, so remind me please).
And if I’m feeling really ambitious, I’ll edit this post to include a link to the new thread.
Ha! Here I am again, editing in the location of the new Moved Threads thread. It is here. -manhattan
