Modern Family 4/13/2016: Man Shouldn't Lie

A sub-par episode in a sub-par season. Particularly, I thought the bit with the Christian rock band was a little heavy-handed.

Also, Phil & Claire seem awfully cavalier about Haley’s pot smoking ("[Haley’s car] smells like Bob Marley’s dirty laundry hamper").

A dog is not going to recognize a fossil as being a bone. Took me right out of the story.

So was the rock band just completely oblivious to Mitch & Cam being a gay couple (with a child)? :dubious:

I believe and hope that this was sarcasm… but as much as I love dogs, never over estimate their intelligence for these types of things. If food or something to chew on comes into play their brains kind of go to static.

Sorry to threadshit, but I enjoyed the episode and laughed out loud in spots.

Sarcasm? Me?

It definitely had its moments, but in the main I was disappointed.

Nooo… I would never think of insulting you like that.

I used to have a very sweet lab who if you made a “hand gun” and said “bang” would drop and play dead… or if you threw up your hands and yelled “fire” would stop drop and roll, or would sit for as long as you wanted with a treat on her nose until you said ok and she would flip it up and eat it.

She was clearly very smart, yet sometimes she would confuse a dog turd with a candy bar.

Maybe they didn’t, maybe they did and didn’t care (their fundamentalist stage persona being just that), maybe it bugged them but they needed a place to live. Either way, it made for a funny situation. I LOL’d when the song started and I think that’s all they were going for.

Me, too. I loved that part.

I haven’t watched this show in several years. Why have the writers made Lily such a cold, sarcastic little bitch? She was like that as a toddler, but she’s much worse now. She never even smiles.

It’s been established that Claire is a major influence in Lily’s life.

Well, she was like that when they brought in the new Lilly. I think it’s funny. She’s almost the funny man to everyone else’s straight man. Everyone (but Mitch and Cam mostly) lob her those jokes left and right.

Lilly frequently has the best lines in the show.

My favorite - I think it was when Mitch and Cam both wanted to wear the same outfit: “You guys exhaust me.”

Where did Alex get the money for such a large dinosaur bone? Where did she find it? Here’s one on eBay for $625. Just how serious is her relationship with Sanjay? How did the dog get it out of the box and down to the floor? It’s not a bone, it’s a rock, so why would the dog bury it? Was Alex stupid enough to leave it around a dog and not know what would happen in a third-rate sitcom trope? Why can’t Alex get a decent story line? Why can’t any one on the show get a decent story line this year?

So did I! The show isn’t as funny as it once was, but it is still entertaining.

“… unless they really love each other!!!”

had me dying laughing. Not to mention the look on Cam’s face when he realized what the song was about. You could almost see the wheels turning in his mind as he considered his options. Stop playing? Sabotage the song? Walk off in protest?

Modern family is one of those rare shows that is still entertaining but should really end already. There’s really not much left of the characters to explore. Most of the big issues have already been resolved. Haley and Alex are moving into adulthood. Claire and Phil are coming to terms with their children leaving the home. Jay and Gloria are comfortable with their new child and Jay’s retirement. Mitchell and Cameron’s home and work life is also stable.

The only ones left is Luke and Manny but that would pretty much be a retread of Alex and Haley storylines.
