Modern Family 4/20/2011

This continues to be one of the best shows on television and tonight’s episode was one of the best of the season. (Even though I saw “hair rings” coming from 50 miles away.)

I especially loved Phil’s rant when leaving the shrink’s office. “Oh God, where’d everyone go?! Oh, wait, just a blink.”

Hilarious. I love this show.

The look on Cam’s face during the “God forbid” bit with Mitchell. Gloria’s unfettered joy at the prospect of something awful happening to Lily’s dads.

And, of course - “It’s Lily from the future! Calling from her stripper pole! Hey, dead gay dads, this dance is for you!”

Oh, oh, oh … and Phil’s creepy “Hello, Claire” when he greeted her at the doctor’s office. I did not see that coming (although perhaps if I’d seen the tiny notation in her calendar …).

I like a lot of TV… I LOVE this show. Full out belly laughs. It’s a good thing Cam had clown training to help him know how to fall. I’m sure everybody saw him falling from the wall from a mile away; but that might have actually made it funnier… the anticipation of wondering how it was going to happen.

By the way, it certainly doesn’t hurt that the two hottest actresses in tv are currently working on this show.

*It’s not Missourah!

Okay, I’m sourrah.*

This episode was absolutely hilarious! I particularly enjoyed Gloria anticipating getting Lilly when (not if – When! Ha!) Mitchell and Cam came to their unfortunate ends!

While the dialog was great as usual, the actions were predictable, start to finish sitcom formula. I liked it better when there was a homeless guy living in Lily’s playhouse castle. I’m sorrah, I want to be surprised!!

Did you notice that the shrink said, “He’s a bright and curious boy but he gets distracted. I see it all the time with above-average kids”? In other words, Luke isn’t an idiot, which is, I think, what Claire suspected.

I thought Claire was worried about exactly what Phil said she was - that Luke’s too much like him. “Somewhere’s out there there’s a worried little girl making lists and labeling bins, and he’ll find her.”

As someone who grew up in Missouri, that was spot-on. Someone on that show is from the Show-Me State.
“One time, she gave me a Woody.”

“You know I dooooooooo not.”

Lexicographer Grant Barrett, one of the co-hosts of public radio’s A Way With Words, is from Missouri and according to him, there is a split among Missourians over what the proper pronunciation is, but that both pronunciations have very strong bases of support inside the state. Among non-Missourians, the Missourah pronunciation is rare, except for those few who know just enough to be dangerous.
